Richard Corliss
Lost in Translation revels in contradictions. It's a comedy about melancholy, a romance without consummation, a travelogue that rarely hits the road.
David Rooney
Very much a mood piece, the film's deft balance of humor and poignancy makes it both a pleasurable and melancholy experience.
David Ansen
With this film it becomes clear that Sofia Coppola is a filmmaker with eyes all her own.
Geoff Andrew
So far as the central relationship goes, the film is almost European in its subtlety and nuance. Cinematic cherry blossom.
Eleanor Ringel Gillespie
[Murray] can still do more with a raised eyebrow than anyone since Groucho Marx, but he's mellower and sometimes slightly poignant.
Peter Rainer
In Japan, the most extreme delicacy goes hand in hand with garishness, and Coppola offers up both for our delectation. It's a heady, hallucinatory combo.

Of course, Mr. Murray gets all the laughs with his exquisite timing and wry delivery, but Ms. Johansson makes an eloquent and charismatic listener.

Stunning, Beautiful, Silent yet Loud This film is one of my all time favorites. I just watched it again through google play, and it still makes me feel all the emotions I felt the first time I watched this film. I actually laughed out loud at some of the literal lost in translation scenes. This is a masterpiece from the cinematography, music score, superb acting, to the whole theme, tone, and mood of the film. Sofia Coppola should be forever proud of this piece of art that will forever reverberate through the multitude of mega-million budget movies that just can't touch the simple beauty and elegance this film presents to the minds of the audience where ever they will be. I just hope that everyone will watch this movie and understand the deep and purely human connection of innocent unadulterated love these two characters experience together in a world where we are constantly trapped in our own minds thinking we will never be able to emotionally transcend these barriers we live in every single moment of our lives. "Lost in Translation" gives us hope that there is a chance to be in love with someone not for sex, money, or anything else other than just being a human.
'The best' One of the best films ever made. Friendships means everything in a world so.lonely..
