Never underestimate the entertainment value of the Hulk Smash.

If you are a Marvel fan, then The Avengers will feel like Christmas. Thanks to the merry doings of the director, Joss Whedon, all your favorite characters are here, as shiny and as tempting as...

A spectacle in the grandest sense of the word ...

Whedon, a pop-genre magician best known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is a master of viewer manipulation - because he never gives up his own seat in the crowd.
Ann Hornaday
The performances are so well-pitched in The Avengers, meshing with such vividness and ease, that it's tempting to overpraise the good but not great movie that surrounds them.

The film is good enough to keep all the Marvel Comics crazed audiences out there deliriously happy while keeping the rest of us earthbound types in moderate thralldom.

Good movie! The all star cast and great story line helped to keep my interest in this movie. I love movies that pack a lot into the time you watch without making the movie feel like it was rushed. This comes as a result of balancing how much detail you include in the plot and scene progression. From Asgaurd to Earth to sky and sea. This film takes you to other realms and back with style. Very entertaining. Must watch for comic book fans!
Good enough for me This move was very good on its own and it is beter when you can watch it on the go. The quality of this movie is good and also not so great. I looked at a youtube rip of the movie and it looked almost identical. Even though the quality is not the best. The response time is wonderful. It rairly buffers and thats a thums up. The number one complaint is buffering time so this will not be a problem.
Very fun I thoroughly enjoy this movie I just wish it wasn't geared toward teenagers or young kids so much.Do they really need the cheesy laughs and silliness when there's superheroes involved?Wont younger people still dig it?I'd like to see an R rated serious version of this movie, hence the 4 stars.Still awesome though, great actors and special effects. The kid in me still loves this stuff.

Could have been better. I feel like this movie was good for what it was; a super hero movie. Marvel has done really well with building their characters in stand alone movies, but this is where I feel The Avengers failed. I feel like the characterization was badly done overall. The only improved character was The Hulk, whereas Hawkeye, one of my favorites from the comics, was more in character in his thirty second Thor cameo than he was in this movie. And Cap's characterization made him feel more like a campy icon than a hero.

Awesome Giant monsters and robots. Plus perfectly encapsulated in two scene with captain america, one where the gferman man stands up to Loki and the other when cap jumps out of the plane. Both pretty easily show that these guys get the imagined purity of their heroes. Some heroes can be brooding and complex, like the hulk or batman, and some are just supposed to be the embodiment of good, like cap or superman. Fun time, big ideas, and worth seeing over
INCREDIBLE! Best comic book movie ever. Classic. There is really not much else to say. Has great dialog, great action, great special effects, great characters. It's not perfect (the Chitari army aren't much of a threat, and Hawkeye gets the short end of the stick) but there isn't a better comic book movie that can be enjoyed by a greater range of viewers. Don't rent it. BUY IT! The whole family will love it.
Great entertainment for Fams! Our family will all stay glued to the screen as these Marvel Comics Legends come together in an action packed explosion of vengeance to save the entire world from the evil intent of Loki the brother of Thor. Will Loki get what he thinks he is long overdue for or will he fail to be on top like many of the times before when his brother was made to rule instead. Find out who will get what in this epic struggle of good versus evil saga. Great!!

AWESOME!!! I love this movie. I've been a Marvel fan since I was younger and loved Spiderman and X-Men but Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige (director and producer) did an awesome job with this movie. Great plot and dialogue, I love the action and the fight scenes, and really funny humor. Overall it's really good. If you feel like watching a sci-fi/action/comedy/some drama, you will love this movie.
"You Listen Well Brother", "I'm listening" Best movie I've seen in a long while. As far as super hero movies go. Perfect acting, perfect plot, although Loki being a hardcore villain I'm not too big of a fan of, but other than that amazing. I recommend everyone seeing the most amazing superhero movie The Avengers. It's awesome. Let's not forget it's the best superhero film I've seen so far.
One of the best movies! Amazing movie Tony Stark is perfect I love Captain America Bruce banner could have been a little better but I recommend this movie to everyone best movie ever except for Amazing Spider Man and it was hilarious

So F****** Cool!! This movie gave me goosebumps on so any levels. The action was good, the acting was good, the story was good, and even the dialogue was awesome and memorable. There are so many "Big Hit" moments in this movie, and my inner child caught all of them full force. I totally geeked when I went to go see this in theaters. This was my favorite movie of 2012 by far. I cannot wait to reconnect with these characters in Age of Ultron, I'm getting goosebumps now simply thinking about it!!!! If you have not seen this move yet, then you do yourself an injustice, and I recommend you remedy that immediately!! This was n amazing job done by all those involved. This goes to show you, that when you take your time and set up the franchise right, it can involved more than one complex main character, and still let EVERYBODY have their own shine moments. In the end, everything came together to make this a movie for the ages, and possibly one of my favorite movies of all time.
A bit overrated A good movie, but the second half bored me. The first half was filled with clever and smart dialogue, but then it slowly turns into a well done Michael Bay movie. This is the greatest Marvel superhero movie. Not sure about greatest superhero movie ever. Definitely not even a contender for best film ever. All in all, good, but not as phenomenal as everyone makes it out to be.

Awesome. If you're looking for a subtle, intellectual movie with nuanced subtext and complex character development, you should probably look somewhere else. This is a straight on, unapologetic blockbuster action flick. Joss Whedon brings some of his trademark sense of humor to the production and takes what would have been a great superhero movie and makes it outstanding.
Puny Movie GOOD!!!! Puny movie good! Puny movie better on Bleu Ray! Loki same puny god tho. Hulk SMASH!!!!

Best group of super heroes. Best group and best movie about them as well. I can't just be opinionated on this can I? Well the graphics are amazing, the comedy hilarious and the actors astounding. A few things I found slightly... wrong(for lack of a better word) would be, Loki not being able to recover from Hulk's "beating" per say. Or no one trusting the Captain at first (I'm talking about when he gave orders to the police officers). But these are small and, once again, just my opinion. I 100% believe this movie deserves five stars.
It was ok The movie was ok, I felt it was overrated. The story was good, with some minor plot holes. I found it less enjoyable of a movie because there were so many "heroes" and no central character. Captain America seems to feel out of place, Iron-man acted irresponsible and arrogant, Thor was nothing but a hot-head, and all the other characters felt like they were trying to hard to steel the show. Lastly, Loki was too easy to take-down and so I didn't feel like New York was truly in any danger. I gave it a 3 star because although the movie had good story, action, and plot development, None of the "major characters" ever did anything that left me feeling "Wow, they were essential to the story." While watching this movie, I never felt like I was on the end of my seat.

Really.... Let me start by saying I really enjoyed this movie. It rates up there as one that I 1. saw in theaters and 2. really wanted to buy when it came out. Here is where my review kinda goes away from being a critic of the movie to a critic of...well...some fellow keyboard critics. I was disturbed to read a review that said this movie was 'unrealistic'...really now. A movie about super heroes is unrealistic. I am pretty sure this movie falls into the fantasy category under the subheading of comic book universe logic. That's about as unrealistic as it gets. This movie is great because it lets us get away from that job we hate or the argument with our significant other. It lets us, for a couple hours, live in another plane of existence where all the things we were taught we impossible are possible. The unrealistic is the best aspect of all movies. if they realistic we would never go see them unless we liked documentaries about what we do everyday. The fantasy involved is this movie's greatest spectacle. It is the thing that keeps us in the seats and buying it. So yes, it is unrealistic, but if you expected realism you really should try another genre, Mr Warhol.
Haters are hilarious. The purists who think you can fit decades of cannon into a single feature need to shut it. Joss Whedon needed to make an accessible film that satisfied both the geeks and the general public, and he did both brilliantly. This is an EXCELLENT movie, as evidenced by the vast majority of ratings. Stop crying into your hot pockets, and keep your griping to your mom's basement. Cheers, Mr. Whedon. A brilliant effort.
