Monsters vs Aliens is skilfully animated and spasmodically funny, but you get the impression the film's seven (!) writers ran out of ideas two-thirds of the way through.
Ben Mankiewicz
[The voice cast] really delivered funny line after funny line throughout this.
Ben Lyons
Monsters Vs Aliens made me feel like a big kid again.
Anthony Lane
As I took off my gray-lensed 3-D spectacles at the end of Monsters vs. Aliens, I felt not so much immersed as fuzzy with exhaustion.
Peter Rainer
It's an affectionate, fairly funny riff on 1950s sci-fi movies, which often featured aliens, sometimes in the form of gelatinous glop, trying to take over Earth before earthlings, usually of the military variety, save the day.
Christopher Orr
At the altar... Susan sprouts to just under 50 feet tall, taking out the church roof and steeple in the process. Next time, raise higher the roof beam, carpenters.

Cute But Forgettable This film was fun to watch the one time that I did see it. The voice acting was superb but sadly wasted on a story that has been done over and over again: a bunch of misfits save earth. Done. To. DEATH. Some jokes are recycled from other films (See: A Bugs Life's Heimlich and his butterfly transformation and Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman), some are just flat, and few will give you a good solid chuckle at best. I found the characters to be mostly unlikeable but I'm sure that young children will be entertained by their silly antics. This is worth purchasing if your kids like silly movies but, if you haven't got any kids, you are better off either renting this or skipping it altogether. Three stars for the acting and animation. Minus two stars for the crappy writing and overdone story.
