Glorious vision of youth and truth, love and loss, your name is Mud.
Michael Phillips
An evocative highlight of the American movie year so far.
Joe Neumaier
Sadly, Nichols, who made the superb Take Shelter, gets mired in mood this time around. But there's still an evocative sense of childhood exploration, and a gritty performance by Matthew McConaughey.
David Thomson
For at least three-quarters of the way, this is a fine film, and one that kids and parents could see together.
Adam Nayman
There is an enchanted-fairy-tale aspect to Mud, but its bright, calm surface only barely disguises a strong, churning undercurrent.
A modern fairy tale, steeped in the sleepy Mississippi lore of Twain and similar American writers, and with a heart as big as the river is wide.

Nichols has a strong feeling for the tactility of natural elements-water, wood, terrain, weather.

Story about what a man was willing to do for the woman he grew up with and loved and always took her back! But in the end was he going to let history repeat itself or walk away? Very good flick! I loved how you couldn't see what was coming and how unpredictable it was. I would definitely recommend this movie. Loved it! ♥♥♥♥♥

A surprisingly great coming of age tale with a surprising performance Initially when I discovered that Matthew Mccanaughey was starring I had my trepidations, but they were immediately dispelled within the first twenty minutes. This is a glamour less performance that does not rely on his usual charming gimmicks, it's a definite sign that he wants to be take more seriously as an artist. The rest of the cast was great as well especially the character Neckbone... You'll grow to love his razor sharp wit. Overall, it's a must see.

Really fantastic movie What an incredible director, because when all performances are that uniformly great and especially with two kids as the leads, that's the director's brilliant casting and working with actors. Great story of love and loss, truth and lies, innocence and fear. Absolutely beautiful! I will never forget this story and these actors. MUST SEE!

The Human Condition What I thoroughly enjoyed about this movie is the depth of the characters. With how little is actually revealed about each of the main characters, it creates a believable interaction that mirrors reality very closely. In an attempt to avoid spoiling anything, I will simply say that "Mud" is a story based around the concept of love. Love, next to survival, is one of the most basic elements of the human condition and drives people to their extremes. I feel this movie accomplishes those extremes in the characters while still making the movie realistic and entertaining. I highly, highly recommend this film.
Amazing My favrotie movie of all time. Beautiful symbolism and a beautiful classic story to boot. A new age huckleberry Finn ! One kids search for love leads him on a journey of twists and turns. What you think you know you Dont and what seems to be may not be as all as it seems. Love mud 10 stars out of 5 and I give it a trillion thumbs up!

"MUD"THE BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR REALIZUM IS WHAT YOU GET WITH THIS MOVIE and an original script . Give me more movies like this one . They left out the special effects which made the movie very believable. This was a GREAT movie!! The very best Matthew MaConaughey he should be up for an Oscar...As well as Tye Sheridan. Tom Sawyer and Romeo & Juliet The theme of love sewn into each of the characters lives as they impact each other really gives the sense that Mud and Juniper are the star crossed lovers, but young Ellis' view of love is being developed amid the controversy at home, and his experience interacting with girls of his age group. The morals and values of these characters reminds me of Tom Sawyer and the moral compass of independent life on the Mississippi.

A great American classic... I was mesmerized by Jeff Nichols' 'Take Shelter', which he also wrote and directed. He deftly weaves his stories through strong characterizations, which appeals to devoted cinephiles. The pacing is such that it's similar to a work of literature, so it requires patience. In the end, the emotional pay off is more than worth it. I highly recommend this gritty, yet sweet tale. This is also the first film where Matthew McConaughey demonstrated his true acting capabilities.

But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. MPAA Rating: PG-13 - 2012 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures Funding, LLC.
