[A] brisk, stylish and extremely heartfelt portrait of Nas' rise from the housing projects of Queensbridge to the heights of hip-hop royalty.
John DeFore
The doc avoids the prefab feel of many similarly targeted music films, instead offering a strong sense of the neighborhood that served as both a rallying cry for musicians who grew up there and a constant threat to their lives.
Daniel Leslie
Nas: The Statistical Anomaly A great example of how creative talent can break through socioeconomic barriers.
Edwige M Jean
Classic One of the best documentary I have seen by far. The depictions and analysis of the lyrics and tracks is pure genius. This documentary holds as much high honor and grace as the album does. A deeper look inside of how his whole being came in to existence. He did not become a product of environment. He was able to rise above it all thru music. #Classic #LoveMeSomeHim #TimeIsIllimatic

Awesome movie A great movie to compliment a one of a kind album NaS is definitely one of the greatest to do it.
LA Cult
Not what a Hip/Hop head would expect . . . This documentary/movie would be expected to be directed with the idea of the legendary Illmatic album in mind. Unfortunately that is not the case, but it doesn't fail to entertain. This docu-movie touches the life of Nasir Jones in a biography fashion, instead of the making of Illmatic. Illmatic is seen as more of a stepping stone than the overall concept. If you like or would like to get to know Nas this is a must see. Don't watch this with the idea that all you will get is Illmatic!

Culled from hundreds of hours of music, tracing the evolution of gospel music through its many styles -- the spirituals and early hymns, the four-part harmony-based quartets, the integration of blues and swing, the emergence of "soul," and the blending of rap and hip-hop elements. Neil Young Journeys

In May of 2011, Neil Young drove a 1956 Crown Victoria from his idyllic hometown of Omemee, Ontario to downtown Toronto's iconic Massey Hall where he intimately performed the last two nights of his solo world tour. Along the drive, Young recounted insightful and introspective stories from his youth to filmmaker Jonathan Demme. Demme, a long-time fan and collaborator, captured these tales of Young's childhood and masterfully weaved them together with his mesmerizing music including live performances from the 2010 album Le Noise and powerful renditions of classics including "Ohio", "Hey Hey, My My", "I Believe in You" and previously unreleased songs "Leia" and "You Never Call". Through the tunes and the tales, Demme portrays a personal, retrospective look into the heart and soul of the artist. 2012 Shakey Pictures, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Festival Express

In the summer of 1970, some of the era's biggest rock stars took to the rails for Festival Express, a multi-artist, multi-city concert tour that captured the spirit and imagination of a generation. What made it unique was that it was portable; for five days, the bands and performers lived, slept, rehearsed and let loose aboard a customized train that traveled from Toronto, to Winnipeg, to Calgary, with each stop culminating in a mega-concert. The entire experience was filmed both off-stage and on, but the extensive footage and sound tapes of the events remained locked away for decades, only recently having been rediscovered and restored. The film Festival Express is a momentous achievement in rock film archaeology which combines the long-lost material with contemporary interviews that add important context to the event nearly 35 years after originally being filmed.
