Bob Mondello
For a film that traffics in implacable malice, this movie remains remarkably grounded in the everyday.
Christopher Orr
McCarthy's ferocious tale gives the Coens room to unleash their cinematic gifts, but keeps them from wandering too far afield and losing themselves in the marshes of technical prowess or easy irony.
Geoff Andrew
A masterly tale of the good, the deranged and the doomed that inflects the raw violence of the west with a wry acknowledgement of the demise of codes of honour, this is frighteningly intelligent and imaginative.
Peter Rainer
With its dizzying alternations of comedy and horror, the film is unmistakably a Coen brothers movie -- albeit a much better one than they've made in a while.
Harper Baines
No Country for Old Men looks into the unfathomable depths of evil and poses existential questions about human destiny. Meanwhile, it takes your breath away.
Claudia Puig
Joel and Ethan Coen have directed their best film since Fargo more than a decade ago.

What makes the movie a masterpiece, however, is not the Coens' supreme command of their craft in these scenes, but their willingness to embrace the resigned worldview of McCarthy's novel.

No Country For Old Men The finest movie of all time, in my opinion, but for those old enough to have historical perspective 35-40+. The Coen brothers genius is evident, but subtle. I was furious at the movie's ending, then began thinking, "wait... if they are saying THIS, then THAT can't be.... Better than the book, and repeat: a genuine 10. Violent, but not gratuitous. Wow!
No Country.. just my favorite This movie is spectacular. Cinematography genious. If you enjoy non-stop action, suspense, drama or thrillers, You will love this film. I didn't want this feature to end. Wow! Cormack McCarthy is literary genious. His writing, Coen brothers partnership is just impeccable partnership. One of my top 10 movies of all time. Don't miss out.
Good flick! Simple but well written and acted; the ending was disappointing . I know if I would find that much cash I would have put it in another case and tossed the first one. Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin were awesome in this movie!
Most overated film ever, ever, ever I don't understand why people think this movie is great. I am serious I never write reviews but they build up two characters. Then when it it comes down to the climax, oh wait they took it out. Anybody claiming that taking out the climax is pretentious period. Oh then let's let the bad guy pretty much win. Sorry I don't care how good the shots, score, or deeper meaning b.s. you want to make up it still does not make up for these facts.
Not for everyone This is a cinematic masterpiece. This is not overrated, simply not for specific audiences. This is not a film for everyone. This is classic cinema at it's best. Sadly, a lot of people have forgotten that film used to be an art form. This movie brings it back. It is said that a film isn't about what's said or done, but how it's said and done. The movie is extremly intense and suspenseful, the tension is seen and grown through every shot. It is a very unromanticized film. The type of violence and storytelling is violent, jarring, and memorable. It's very different from typical hollywood movies. Its a very realistic plot, the characters are very believable and the outcome is unexpected. The ending, much like the rest, is a love it or hate it. It focuses on one characters perspective, and as a result it ends for us when it ends for him. Once he's had enough, once he's no longer concerned with the events that occur, once he's out of the chase, the movie ends. I overall really enjoyed this. I hope you do as well.
It is dark Just know that going in. I did not know, so the last 30 minutes were a challenge. The script is excellent, the cinematography is very good. The acting is excellent. Not all of the character's plot lines are handled well.
Keep it real. Real Texas actors really help here. Tommy Lee Jones is from San Saba and totally nails this role. Also, adheres very closely to the book. Brilliant all around.
Great Movie Llewellyn moss , sheriff bell, and Anton sugar are never shown at the same time on screen, but only one person talks to all three of them. who is it?
Daddy Why is every movie rated 4 1/2 stars? Anyways this movistar is a see it once type deal
Classic cinema at its best Great movie! The pacing is griping, and the soundtrack (or lack there of) only adds to the tension of the overall experience. An own in any collectors library

He becomes immersed in an investigation that uncovers an anarchist plot to destroy democracy. Inspired by true events of the 20's the film sets the stage for a timely drama with resoundingly similar parallels to the contemporary war on terrorism and the role government plays to defeat it.

Before his commercial breakthrough with Boogie Nights (1997), writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson made this low-key drama. John (John C. Reilly), a half-bright loser stranded in Reno, is down to his last few bucks when Sydney (Phillip Baker Hall), taking pity on him, buys him breakfast and offers him a few tips on making money in the casinos. Two years later, John has become Sydney's partner, but his lack of common sense goes from problematic to dangerous when he falls in love with Clementine (Gwyneth Paltrow), a cocktail waitress who isn't above turning a few tricks when she needs to make money — and isn't any brighter than John. Hall and Reilly, both first-rate character actors, are cast in rare leading roles, and Paltrow is cast strongly against type as a part-time prostitute with a serious lack of street smarts.
