David Denby
In a single sequence, Aronofsky combines creationism, Darwinian evolution, original sin, the end of days, and radical environmentalism.
Ben Sachs
For all the high-tech showmanship on display, this retelling of Noah and the Ark marks a serious effort to engage with the Old Testament as a literary text.
Christy Lemire
In some ways, Noah resembles one of those Kirk Cameron movies about the apocalypse, only with a better cast and more dazzling special effects.
Keith Uhlich
Rock Transformers.
James Berardinelli
It's overlong and a times sluggish. The fights and battles, designed to give an epic fantasy feel to the movie, are grave miscalculations. And the overabundance of CGI often makes Noah look like a video game.
Bob Mondello
Darren Aronofsky's film about the Old Testament shipbuilder has been sparking controversy - but there's no denying that the Great Flood, digitized, is a pretty great flood.

Despite its flamboyant, and at times goofy, fantasy trappings, Noah is firmly anchored by the fierce moral intensity of Aronofsky's vision, which is, if anything, more Old Testament than the Old Testament itself.

What the hell? The only thing in common with the story of Noah's ark from biblical reference was that there was a guy named Noah, and there was a boat. This was ridiculous from the first five minutes. Like if you went to see the movie "Titanic"...and instead of a boat it was a time machine, and instead of an iceberg it was Unicorn

Noah I rented this movie based on the cover with four other DVD since my country cottage is located in an area off the grid (generator). The cover was attractive yet the movie lacked a consistent theme - was saving the world from sinners or stopping a new generation of children from being born. It was fantastic with its visual effects and monstrous giants however the main actor was better in Gladiator. The theme and his acting roles were well defined however this one was less portrayed Noah as evil.

Brilliant and inspiring This movie will offend some Christian purest but it looks at Noah and his ark from more of a scientific perspective. The word God is never used but I have to tell you Russell Crowe has never been better and Jennifer Connelly gives one of the best performances I've seen all year!Give this film a chance
Good Movie, Not a Direct Translation of the Bible I'm a Christian, and I actually enjoyed this movie, and I really don't understand everyone's hatred towards this movie...I would understand a bit more if the director had claimed that this was an accurate retelling of the Bible, but he said it may be "the most unbiblical movie you've ever seen". But really, I believe it stuck enough to the Bible to get the main theme of the story, but it filled in between the lines with things that COULD have happened. If you want the Bible, then read the Bible.

Noah Awesome movie sure brings you to Reality PDangQ I loved it Russell Crowe is not only a great actor but nice to look at to some may think it's cheezie but do any of Us really know how God really meant for the Story of Creation to be a lot of Books of the Bible were burned and some are still missing. He says in his word we will all know the truth by and by. Watch the movie with an opened mind and Heart and be willing to let God talk to you in his own way.

Not Even a Close Match... To call this a Biblical epic would be a stretch. Anyone who knows the Bible and the story of Noah and the Great Flood will recognize the incongruity of this film. In most cases, poetic license is used to fill in the blanks, to give substance to the unknown facts, to give color the the shades of grey, or to fill the holes with a good quality putty, so to speak. Not so here -- in this film, poetic license was used to re-write the story almost entirely. Were you to read the story of Noah in the Bible, and then watch this film, you'd see very little resemblance of one compared to the other. Obviously the story in the film version wanted to assert that eating meat is a sin; that Noah was not a Prophet of God given specific instructions from God, but rather that he was simply a visionary man who had to interpret his visions and dreams according to his own conscience; and that the sons of Noah did not both have wives (the movie depicted that one son had a wife, the other did not). If these things came from some ancient belief or writing, it certainly wasn't from the Bible, nor from the Torah. Thus, to call this the story of Noah from the Bible is not simply a stretch, but a lie.

You can't spell Noah without No! Simply put Noah is boring. The characters aren't very likeable or relate able so you don't really care too much about what happens to them which is a problem. Noah's character is a cruel jerk of a man and is not the hero from the Bible tale. There is also a strange vegan theme running throughout the movie. Villains and savages are seen eating meat and the "good" characters recoil in disgust.
