"Reaches right through you and chills you to the bone."
Wesley Morris
As far as competence goes, Oculus doesn't have so little as to be accidentally entertaining or enough to come close to working.
Adam Nayman
A deeply silly and mildly effective horror movie about two young-adult siblings coping with the mysterious deaths of their parents.
James Berardinelli
For a horror movie, Oculus is surprisingly lean on the scares. It's more interested in playing tricks with perception and bending reality.
Stephen Whitty
It's just a little vague, a little familiar, a little fake.
Tom Long
"Oculus" is haunting because it messes with your head. That's where the ghosts are.

What makes Oculus ingenious is how Flanagan and co-writer Jeff Howard take this hackneyed storyline and twist it - round 'n' round - ad infinitum into a dizzying corkscrew of a narrative.

Good Movie. I was really looking forward to seeing this movie because I love horror movies that deal with the supernatural. Although this movie had some very scary moments in it, I found it hard to understand what was going on. It kept jumping from one scene to another , and then from the past to the present so fast i couldn't keep up with what was happening.

Terrible... A serious warning out there to those thinking about renting or purchasing: DON'T ! ! ! Truly, the stupidity of the characters never ceased to amaze me throughout the picture. Instead of going out hiring a supernatural priest to literally destroy that accused mirror, these birdbrained teens tried....and failed....to destroy it on their own. Save your hard-earned money.

Solid, and far less conventional than it seems It brilliantly blends psychological horror with the supernatural, and is the most unique haunt-style horror film I've ever seen. The ending will underwhelm you at first, it really feels like an anticlimax, but the more you think about it, the more it works.

interesting but this movie could have been better actually.....it was more about tricks of the mirror and ther wasnt really anything telling the history of the mirror except it was bought and sold alot mentions where it was from but how did it start killing. little details....i expected the ending and didnt find it great at all...it was lacking in scaryness....and the ghosts could have been better

Great date night movie Not really a scary movie to me, but definitely a movie that would scare most. It has the lady from battlestar galatica/ ridick/ the one who got her head chopped off in Halloween resurrection. I think she is a good actress. It will make your girl/boyfriend hold you close if they scare easy. Good for a movie night, because you get caught up in trying to figure out what's real at times. You might not want to stand in the mirror after.
Good. Not your typical horror. Good movie. Confusing but I believe it's meant to be so. The flipping back and forth from past to present day was a cool effect. This movie had jump scares, cringing moments. and great scary creepy imagery. I gave it 4 stars because I still feel it was missing something. Just don't know what. All in all I'd say it's worth your time and if your a horror fan. Perhaps your money.

Pretty alright... Trust me. I know a good horror movie when I see one. I liked the concept of the movie, but it just wasn't orchestrated well. I understood that it was a movie of deception, but they could have been more creative. It was semi-depressing to be honest. Im not THAT dissapointed. Truly. It was just simply, ok. More scene like the apple-lightbulb concept would have made it more chilling.

Underwhelming Haunted mirror confuses people so they think they're brushing their teeth, but they're actually murdering their wife or something similar. Silly premise that loses credibility quickly, made worse by continual flashbacks. No explanation for the creepy monster girl who makes a few appearances for no reason. Is she the mirror ghost? Is she a victim? Who is Marisol? The main characters hallucinate the entire movie, and the timeline unpredictably goes between the present and early 2000's. The mirror eats dogs.
Not bad. This movie suffered from lazy writers. I know there are dumb people out in the world, but I refuse to believe there is anyone as dumb as the female in this movie. Just aweful. That being said the rest of the movie is great there are things that it takes from classic mind twisting movies and twists it even more. I just wish I could have gotten over the multiple dumb decisions made by the characters in this movie to progress the story. I couldn't do it. Ruined most of the movie for me.
Omg This movie hade me on the edge of my seat for the longest time.... It was like okay what the hell is gonna happen next... I love horror flicks... They scare me and I love being scared.... And I'm a tough critic when it comes to horror movies.... Movie had a solid plot.. Not a cheaply made movie... Had very good special effects... I have to say "A must see"

Crap After 1 hour and 15 mins you finally get some semblance of a horror movie and then..... oh wait, it just gets worse. Poorly explained. Poor story. Poor twist. Poor ending. A haunted mirror is what you get with this one....and thats it.... I don't understand how so many people have given this movie a 4 or a 5. True horror movie fans stay far away from this one until it hits TV
What the hell was their plan anyway? The movie makes it very clear that the main character has researched the mirror's powers. She knows it makes you hallucinate and can basically make you do anything. Now she finally has it in her grasp... But, um, what is its weakness, how would you actually kill it, and why does she she have such a strong misguided confidence that she can? No freaking clue!!! It would be like if I read a lot about Floyd Mayweather, and then confidently strutted into the ring with him. Stupid movie.
