Del Toro is a dreamer. He's a visionary. If you give him a pile of money to make enormous robots fight enormous monsters at the end of civilization, he will work to make Pacific Rim a movie that...

It is possible to applaud Pacific Rim for the efficacy of its business model while deploring the tale that has been engendered -- long, loud, dark, and very wet. You might as well watch the birth...
Richard Roeper
A ridiculously entertaining (and often just plain ridiculous) monster-robot movie that plays like that "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots" game from the 1960s.
Christopher Orr
Its visual achievements notwithstanding, Pacific Rim's greatest breakthrough may be that it's the first Hollywood blockbuster to sport a title less descriptive of its plot than of its intended...
David Edelstein
It's as if Del Toro neuro-linked with a robot and then couldn't figure out how to work the controls -- and so watched impotently as the machine made the major creative decisions.
Michael Sragow
All the unpredictability of professional wrestling plus the magic of synchronized Stairmasters -- that's what I got out of the vaunted spectacle of Pacific Rim.

Anime fans rejoice Given today's computer graphics, it's about time someone turned mechs into reality. Pacific Rim has the best CG combined with detailed set design that I've ever seen. Two hundred and fifty foot robots battling aliens on Earth is as close to Evangelion as you're going to get. Guillermo del Toro has done an incredible job on this movie's visuals. The script could be better, as some characters seem to be more concerned with their egos than the human race, but overall this is a definite watch. Rent. Like? Buy.

A fitting tribute to Japanese pop culture On the surface, this is a movie about duelin' robots fighting giant sea-dwelling monsters. However, Guillermo Del Toro has managed to cram in as much homages to Japan as possible to get the movie rolling. This is a movie about a child's dreams coming true -Gundam, Godzilla, Evangelion, & Super Q all in one! Beautiful special effects, Amazing Soundtrack, and stellar designs make this an audiovisual feast that you can't ignore. Watch it!

Kaiju and Mech robots! Go into this movie with the right expectations. No, it's not going to go down in cinematic history with the likes of Citizen Kane, and at times it honestly didn't even make sense. But what this movie does have is gigantic freakin' monster tearing up major cities while being punched in the face by freaking huge mech warriors! It's a fun two hours, just don't hope to be intellectually stimulated.

One of the best movies of 2013! This movie is just amazing! The plot is nice but not perfect. The CGI is beautiful and the action scenes are like butter for your eyes! And to thoses people critisizing it because the kaiju could be killed easly, just remember its a freaking movie and the kaiju would've adapted to withstand it.

Go Watch Evangelion Too many shot for shot scene recreations from it. If you want to make a live action Eva movie, just do it. Trying to be all things to all people is what makes this movie different, and why it didn't catch on. And if you haven't watched Evangelion, your money would be much better spent there anyways.

Would not reccomend but... I went into this movie expecting huge robots fighting monsters. In that area this move did not let down. The fighting was amazing and entertaining. Everything else though was sub par. The characters didn't hook me and I didn't feel emotionally attached. The death of a named character was equivalent to that of the random background characters. People were brought in and we were expected to like them on that alone. They tried to put too many elements into the move and in to short of a time. It felt like combining all the lord of the ring movies into one. I would be interested in an prequel, sequel or retelling!!!! The universe that this movie lives in is one I would like to see again.
Pacific dumbstruck. Just a modern twist on rock'em sock'em robots. I've seen better stories in a preschool ABC book. Jax, better stick with the biker gangs because your big movie debut can blow it out my tailpipe. You don't need to keep getting into rumbles over turf brother. Still, I think that this movie gets a three fat fingers up for "whatever"!

Such a bad movie The structure was completely formulaic and predictable, the fighting sequences made no sense, the technical points were illogical to say the least. When creating a sci-fi world, one has to pay attention to the science, as well as the fiction. The idea that people can forget a robot has a magic sword that kills enemies 10 times more efficiently than a plasma cannon is just stupid

Action The story line is nothing new. I applaud them for not drawing out dramatic scenes, but still predictable. But that action was too good. It wasn't like avengers where they just kill tons of monsters, this was heart wrenching action. Each kill took so much out of you because they don't hold back when it comes to kills (spoiler alert) on both sides. But man it's good. Better sorry line or more robot goodness and I'd give it 5 stars.

Better than you might think You'd think this movie was nothing more than a modern day Godzilla or Ultraman story, but it's not. It's very character driven with some pretty good acting behind it. The action is indeed good coupled great visuals. It was awesome to see on the big screen, but is still a good movie if watched on a television.

Best film Ive seen in 2013 Well done movie within 9 minutes into the movie action fighting and lots of it,this was made to be like an anime from the 80s way better than transformers some of its a little uh cliche but isnt anime cliche yes it is love the Jaegers Gypsy danger and Stryker Kaiju were strange and cool definitely recommend

Tons of fun! This was one of the funnest movie going experiences I have had in a long time. Giant robots fighting monsters from another dimension, love it! Kick butt asian chick, love it! Over the top characters that just won't die, love it! Put aside your skepticism for a couple of hours and you will love it too.
Duh!!!!!! It's called SCI-FI To those who made dumb comments about it not being realistic, I suggest you look up the definition of "sci-fi" obviously you have no imagination whatsoever, stay away from movies and leave the reviews to more intelligent people. To those comparing it to "pans labyrinth" um are you stupid? Completely different types of movies, for even trying to compare the two, put yourself in the degenerate category. As for the ones who said it was "boring" just stick to Dirty Dancing.
