Pain & Gain weighs about 700 pounds when it ought to weigh 2.
Tom Huddleston
The first hour may be Bay's career high point: it's fast, freaky, gloriously tasteless and startlingly pointed in its attacks on western insecurity, shallowness and greed.
Peter Travers
In between scenes of the muscleheads torturing their victim, Bay indulges his taste for treating women as sluts and grisly brutality as a nifty excuse for a cheap laugh.
David Edelstein
Now [Bay] hits new levels of both artistry and sleaziness in the black comedy Pain & Gain, which I strongly recommend if you don't overvalue taste, subtlety, and moral decency. I liked it.
Tom Charity
This crude and ugly entertainment is as crass as everything this depressingly successful filmmaker has done.
Peter Rainer
It's official. Michael Bay, director of the Transformers clobberfests, knows how to make movies about humans, too. The problem is, he thinks humans are robots.

It may be the best movie Michael Bay's ever made. And suggests that, if you just kept his toys put away a little longer, someday he might even make a better one.

Great movie. Interesting and sometime even funny. I saw the 48 hours episode that discusses the real events surrounding this film months before this movie came out. It was a wierd and fascinating tale and the movie tells the tale of the sun gym gang in an interesting and at times funny way. It was interesting to see more of the personality of Danny Lugo who only got briefly discussed in the 48 hours episode. The movie was amazing.
Not what the trailer made it look like! This is definitely NOT a comedy, regardless of what the trailer makes it look like. It is very dark and gruesome, made all the worse for the fact that it is a true story and the filmmakers tried to present these horrible acts is a funny light. It made me a little sick to my stomach. The acting was great, and Dwayne Johnson definitely stole the show, but it is not...repeat NOT a feel good movie.

Glad I waited to rent Pain & Gain definitely reminds you that even the craziest things happen in life. It had me giggling, laughing, and shaking my head. It was better that I thought, but I'm glad I waited til I could rent it. It's not for everyone, but if Dwayne, "The Rock" Johnson gives you a good laugh check it out.
I believe in Fitness.=)}) Had to watch it twice 2 really appreciate the humor. 4a very dumb funny movie; it's incredibly designed pre/current/post time dimensional comic layout is really super intelligently collaborated & implemented throughout the Movie. Very Well written & portrayed theatrically... 4 such a stupid flick;-)

Not a comedy This movie is about a true crime story. It has comedic elements but most of them are in the form of making the criminals look as stupid as they really were in real life by mocking them. It's a good movie and it tells the tale of how stupid and greed come together and can very seriously harm others. You will not leave this movie thinking anything other than that the group of criminals were some of the most values-deprived and brain dead morons in south Florida history, and I think that's the point of the movie.
This was a real good movie , had mixed feelings about it, one scene had me leave the room for a few, made my skin crawl, but all in all , worth watching!! Scared my son and made him think twice about some things, which was good for the age where they know it all, sad that people have low I.q. and get caught up with the wrong crowd!!! Love Vin Diesel, he earned. 5th star!!!

Kidnapping and Murder are Funny? I cannot recall ever seeing a movie based on a true tale of kidnapping, drug use, murder and mayhem billed as a comedy. Ed Harris and Mark Wahlberg are well-respected actors, and Dwayne Johnson has been building his career playing the good guy, and appealing to young children. Did these crimes really happen? If so, the families of the victoms should speak up and call for a boycott of the studio, the director, the screenwriters and all the players until they make a formal, public apology and give their earnings from this travesty to charity. (And by the way, Mr. Johnson should go back to his old name, "The Rock," because his career should sink like one after this.)

Jane isn't the only one who has noticed that Angela is attractive: Lester has fallen into uncontrollable lust for her, and she becomes part of his drastic plan to change his body and change his life. Meanwhile, next door, Colonel Fitts (Chris Cooper) has spent a lifetime in the Marine Corps and can understand and tolerate no other way of life, which makes life difficult for his son Ricky (Wes Bentley), an aspiring filmmaker and part-time drug dealer who is obsessed with beauty, wherever and whatever it may be.
