David Germain
Guillermo del Toro has crafted a masterpiece, a terrifying, visually wondrous fairy tale for adults that blends fantasy and gloomy drama into one of the most magical films to come along in years.
Mary Corliss
This is a fantasy realm so fully and elegantly realized, it might be the adaptation of a classic novel. Yet the source is Del Toro's own capacious imagination.
Carrie Rickey
Pan's Labyrinth suggests that fairy-tale violence helps the vulnerable process and overcome real-life conflicts and that real-life violence permanently smashes the soul and the heart.
David Fear
Del Toro specializes in taking horror and superhero films to bold, baroque places, yet Pan's Labyrinth is a step above his usual forays into the fantastic.
Ann Hornaday
So breathtaking in its artistic ambition, so technically accomplished, so morally expansive, so fully realized that it defies the usual critical blather. See it, and celebrate that rare occasion...
Kimberly Oliver
Wonderful Worth watching and enjoying. The special effects are amazing and captivating.

Extremely Disappointed If I wanted to read a story I would have bought a book. The movie is entirely in Spanish with English subtitles. I don't speak or understand Spanish so therefore in my opinion it's a waste of time and money. I was spending so much time reading the subtitles that I couldn't enjoy the visual effects of the movie. I'm sure had it been in English I would have loved the movie.

In two words: Fascinatingly weird. I had been meaning to watch this movie for a while... Almost happy I put it off. Why, you ask? This movie is 15 gallons of what the hell in a 5 gallon bucket. The term "Dark" doesn't begin to describe this, coming from the guy who loves dark movies. Lemme put it this way: If you feel like devoting the next two hours of your life to something that will leave you sitting back going, "God, man, why did they do that?" Watch this movie. I'm gonna go sit in my shower and let cold water pour over me now. I'm done.So done.
