Paradise Hope
The third installment in Ulrich Seidl's PARADISE trilogy, PARADISE: HOPE tells the story of overweight 13-year-old Melanie and her first love. While her mother travels to Kenya (PARADISE: LOVE) and her aunt does missionary work (PARADISE: FAITH), Melanie spends her summer vacation at a strict diet camp for overweight teenagers. Between physical education and nutrition counseling, pillow fights and her first cigarette, Melanie falls in love with the camp director, a doctor 40 years her senior. As the doctor struggles with the guilty nature of his desire, Melanie had imagined her paradise differently.
Lore
After being abandoned by their Nazi parents at the end of World War II, five German siblings embark on a harrowing journey across their war-torn country. Led by the eldest, 14 year-old Lore (Saskia Rosendahl, in a luminous debut), the children are forced to confront their parents' actions and the reality of the new world in which they find themselves. When the group encounters the mysterious Thomas, a Jewish refugee, Lore finds herself racked by conflicting emotions - her innate contempt for his kind and her burgeoning sexual desire. Lyrical, haunting, and unforgettable, LORE is at once a strikingly unique coming-of-age tale and an unforgettable look at the human legacy of the holocaust.
Auschwitz
With Auschwitz, controversial director Uwe Boll depicts the harsh reality of the process inside one of the most infamous Nazi death camps by using brutally realistic imagery. By shining a light on a small corner of the holocaust, Boll effectively shows us just how depraved and sadistic life in the camps could be - and how short. Auschwitz is not for the faint of heart. Boll combines documentary footage and interviews with a fictional narrative in an attempt to understand the horrors that were visited on the victims of the Nazis. Auschwitz explores humankind's capacity for evil and examines our understanding of one of the bleakest periods of our history.
Reclaim Your Brain
TV producer Rainer has it all: big salary, luxurious penthouse, high life, hot car, even hotter girlfriend. The 30-something go-getter has reached the top by creating TV shows of the most stupid and vulgar kind. One day, mysterious young woman Pegah vengefully drives full speed into his car. After this near-death experience, Rainer has a major change of heart and decides to produce a thought-provoking news show for his station's prime-time lineup. Devastated by the show's poor ratings, Rainer quits his job and embarks on an investigation of the audience measurement system that keeps intelligence-insulting programs at Number One. Teaming up with the beautiful Pegah and a gang of unemployed social misfits, Rainer sets out to prove that a conspiracy surrounds the boxes used in select households to estimate audience percentage.
The Holy Land of Tyrol
It is spring 1809. Katharina's Tyrolean husband, Franz, is arguing with a French soldier in Augsburg's marketplace. It ends with the soldier dead by accident and the young couple fleeing the city for Franz's homeland.
The Holy Land of Tyrol tells the story of the Tyrolean uprising of 1809 in a way it has never been seen previously. The film takes viewers on a breathtaking journey into the past through the lives of a Bavarian physician's daughter and a South Tyrolean mountain farmer's family.
With unique historical images and original locations, The Holy Land of Tyrol captures not only one woman's life, but provides powerful and poetic feelings for the great issues of our time: love, war, religion and the search for our own identity.
The film is a South Tyrolean-Bavarian co-production of director Philipp J. Pamer and producer Florian Reimann demonstrating that 200 years after the war between Bavaria and Tyrol, a shared future through common history is possible.
