Purgatory House
Can you see me? At its core, Purgatory House is about a lonely teen searching for a connection. It is a philosophical film that inspires conversations about the choices we make in our lives, and the results of those choices. Sometimes it seems like today’s society can value “things” more than people. We worship beauty and violence, and then wonder why our kids are expressing themselves through mind-numbing drugs and eating disorders, and by showing up at schools with guns. Are we losing touch with each other? The media has become our children’s babysitter, role model and higher power. Purgatory Houses are here on earth. Can we help our kids find the way out?

My Reaction Is Not In Limbo With the recent passing of Robin Williams, depression and suicide have become hot button topics in the media. In Purgatory House we delve deep into life after death, more specifically what happens to those that commit suicide. The overall theme of this movie is.. suicide IS NOT the answer! However, it's not balled up in a quaint religious package or in the guise of propaganda. This is a subjective view of how an "easy out" has disastrous consequences. Kudos to the 14yr old screenwriter for consistency in this lofty depiction of the after life. Purgatory House is riddled with intricacies and subtleties. Once here your body can handle as much drugs and alcohol with unyielding tolerance. All of your habits from earth transverse into Purgatory House. You walk in with the clothes on your back, and in your hotel room is a big screen tv with only 1 channel.. earthTV. Here's where you can watch realtime activity of your friends and family back on .. you guessed it - Earth! The one thing I took away from this film was the underlying factor of Hope. No matter what difficulties you face, if you ride them out - you just may weather the storm. No easy answers and there's no quick fixes.

Loved it! I rented this film last week and I am telling EVERYONE I know about it! Original, thought-provoking and just plain excellent. I could relate on so many different levels.

Dynamic Especially for a Teen Writer Maybe people have seen the movie, 13, and thought it was intense. I know I did. But, this, also, is another one of those teenage angst movies written by the teen herself and suffice it to say holds some very intense emotional turmoil in it as well as a few head-isodes, you won't want to miss. The trailer doesn't do it, you have to just watch the movie.

This is something you must see! This is something you must see! I was pleased to see this on release after I saw it at a film festival screening. It would be such a shame if it had gone the way of many films and disappeared. I cant wait to watch it again!

Mike Weiss (Chris Evans) is a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict. Paul Danziger (co-director Mark Kassen), his longtime friend and partner, is the straight-laced and responsible yin to Mike's yang. Their mom-and-pop personal injury law firm is getting by, but things really get interesting when they decide to take on a case involving Vicky (Vinessa Shaw), a local ER nurse, who is pricked by a contaminated needle on the job. As Weiss and Danziger dig deeper into the case, a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy teeters on exposure and heavyweight attorneys move in on the defense. Out of their league but invested in their own principles, the mounting pressure of the case pushes the two underdog lawyers and their business to the breaking point.

The Reader
Academy Awards' winner Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road) delivers a dynamic performance in this "tale of eroticism, secrecy and guilt" (Claudia Puig, USA Today) set in turbulent post-Nazi Germany. Bringing to life the celebrated international novel, Winslet is riveting as Hanna Schmitz, a lonely, working-class woman who experiences a brief but intense affair with a teenage boy. Years later they meet again: Hanna now a defendant in a notorious case and her ex-lover, now a law student, holding the secret to her salvation. Directed by three-time Academy Awards' nominee Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and featuring Ralph Fiennes (The Duchess) as the grown man still reeling from Hanna's influence, The Reader is a "moving, romantic and poignant story, (Roger Friedman, Fox News) about the difficult distance between truth and reconciliation
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
In Werner Herzog's new film Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is to scoring drugs while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes) and together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.
MPAA Rating: R for drug use and language throughout, some violence and sexuality
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes and Val Kilmer

Inside an old New York City apartment, Clyde (Brendan Sexton III) looks after his cousin (Antonella Lentini) following the death of her roommate. As his exploration into the death continues, Clyde's perception of what is real and imagined becomes increasingly blurred.
Compliance
Inspired by true events, COMPLIANCE tells the chilling story of just how far one might go to obey a figure of authority. On a particularly busy day at a suburban Ohio fast food joint, high-strung manager Sandra (Ann Dowd) receives a phone call from a police officer saying that an employee, a pretty young blonde named Becky (Dreama Walker), has stolen money from a customer. Convinced she's only doing what's right, Sandra commences the investigation, following step-by-step instructions from the officer at the other end of the line, no matter how invasive they become.
The Way Back
Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris (Apollo 13), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) and Colin Farrell (In Bruges) star in this epic saga of survival from six-time Oscar-nominee Peter Weir (Witness, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World). Inspired by an incredible true story, THE WAY BACK begins in 1940 when seven prisoners attempt the impossible: escape from a brutal Siberian gulag. Thus begins a treacherous 4,500-mile trek to freedom across the world's most merciless landscapes. They have little food and few supplies. They don't know or trust each other. But together, they must withstand nature at is most extreme. Their humanity is further tested when they meet a teenage runaway who begs to join them on their quest. A compelling testament to the human spirit, this gripping wilderness adventure is "Peter Weir at his hypnotic best" (Telluride Film Festival).
The Way
A powerful and inspirational story about family, friends, and the challenges we face. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to collect the remains of his adult son (played by Emilio Estevez), killed in the Pyrenees while walking The Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on, is the profound impact the journey will have on him. Inexperienced as a trekker, Tom soon discovers that he will not be alone on this journey.

Hurricane Season
Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) delivers a superstar performance in this powerful story based on real events. Amid the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina, one coach attempts the impossible: create a winning basketball team using players from five of the hardest-hit high schools in the area. Featuring Isaiah Washington (Grey's Anatomy), Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Shad Moss aka Bow Wow (Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift), rap megastar Lil Wayne, and Bonnie Hunt (Cheaper by the Dozen films), Hurricane Season takes an honest look at disaster and shows how heroes can rise from the most devastating of circumstances.
