Justin Chang
Piles on the foreign accents and paint-by-numbers brutality, all served up with a grim, operatic self-seriousness that gives Cage's antihero little room to maneuver.
Bilge Ebiri
Cage may not always be easy on the eyes, but at his best, you can't turn away from him, because you never really know what he'll do next. But here, the actor plays it drab and dour.
David Hiltbrand
There isn't an original frame or line of dialogue in Rage.
Tom Long
It's hard to say this is the worst film Nicolas Cage has ever made - there are just too many contenders to choose from. But it's near the bottom.
Scott Bowles
Rage is so full of cliché, convention and just plain odd narrative choices that it can't get out of its own way.
Gary Goldstein
The latest in a parade of cheesy, derivative action-thrillers that erstwhile A-list actor Nicolas Cage has recently starred in, presumably as a quick cash grab.

The hand-me-down showiness and sluggish storytelling by the director, Paco Cabezas, underline the monotony in this ordinary revenge thriller.
User reviews
I would like my 98 minutes back, please. Anti-climactic. Daughter dies in the beginning. More people die as a result. Cage never really lives up to the "Rage" aspect of his character. A simple taste from his ghost rider rage-filled persona would have been more appropriate. "Let the police do their job..." Wouldn't they have seen an obvious fabrication in the original crime scene done up by two drunk, adolescent teenagers? The plot and character development were a bit shallow. Random, unaffiliated people die as a result of one obvious lie from a 17 year old boy. "Let the police do there job..." That lie said over and over is the real story here, that if the police inside the movie had been more attentive to the crime scene, then all would have been well and only one stupid drunk teenager would have been revenge-murdered by Nicholas Cage and this movie would be a short, no longer than 20 necessary minutes and this critic wouldn't have so much guilt knowing he can never get that 98 minutes back from watching this terrible movie.
Bad Accidentally rented this from a redbox before I looked up its rotten tomatoes rating. Its review rating is horrible, I think it's less than 10%. I watched about 25 minutes before turning this movie off. It's awful. Cheaply made, horrible production quality. This should be like a straight to lifetime channel movie. Nick Cage you have burned me for the last time, I still love you but I will never rent another one of your movies unless I know without a doubt that It's awesome

The plan was flawless. The execution was perfect. Charlie Croker pulled off the crime of a lifetime. The one thing that he didn't plan on was being double-crossed.
