J. R. Jones
Frank Whaley and Philip Seymour Hoffman play minor characters so annoying they might as well wear T-shirts reading 'Eat My Brain.'
Geoff Andrew
Where Mann and Demme steered the hokum away from dull genre generalities, Ratner's point-and-film literalness churns out a thriller by rote, shorn of the psychological dogfighting that distinguished the first two films.
Richard Roeper
Wonderful performances and some really chilling moments.
David Edelstein
The beats are the same, but the eerie vibe has been lost in translation.
Everything's a little too familiar.
Elegant, dark, alluring, frightening, mesmerizing.

It's highly entertaining, fast-paced and ultimately without deeper meaning, just like most other Hollywood blockbusters these days.

Hikers in the area have broken in and used the house as a stopover. They find it filled with trash and empty beer cans. Without telling the group, Carissa hikes back to the car the next morning. Only she never makes it. Assuming Carissa has gone into town to look for a motel, the others go about cleaning the house. While looking through some boxes, Shelby discovers that her father had a brother Joshua (John Otrin) who was institutionalized when he was young. When her friends start to disappear, Shelby suspects that Joshua is still alive and hiding in the attic of the Red House. With the help of Cole Callahan (Brendan Wayne,) the handsome deputy sheriff of Copperhead County, she unravels the mystery.
