Padilha is Brazilian, and it's interesting that both RoboCops have been made by men whose non-Hollywood work focused on their respective countries' curdled politics.
Peter Travers
This Robo-reboot tries fiercely to update the satirical punch and stylistic perversity Paul Verhoeven's 1987 original. It's a futile gesture.
Richard Roeper
Cynical, boring, PG-13 retread.
Dana Stevens
Neither Alex Murphy's internal moral conflict nor the larger, vaguely satiric portrait of a global culture dependent on high-tech law enforcement seem to be the main point of this Robocop remake,...
Ian Buckwalter
It's well made, polished, and hits every mark - but is it crazy to want a futuristic sci-fi action flick about a motorcycle-riding metal supercop to be just a little more fun?

It fully justifies its existence. That doesn't mean it's especially good. But it's a rare "reboot" that transcends its studio's money-grubbing. It has some Big Ideas.

Not a patch on the original Robocop 2014 is a competent but dull and incredibly mediocre action movie. If you're used to the usual bland, forgettable PG-13 action movies Hollywood puts out these days then you might enjoy this. I would, however, strongly suggest you watch the original Robocop as it is a vastly superior movie.
Forget the naysayers. This is an incredible movie. People who think otherwise have their reasons. However, for me this movie adapts to the modern times with a cast that fills their roles spectacularly. Too often people get caught up in details and other nonsense, while what is really important is the element of human emotion which is captured in this movie quite well. One of my few regrets is that I didn't offer this movie my money by seeing it in theaters.

Old was better This has way better graphics than the original but I still like the old one better. And though I dont have any thing against Samuel l. I feel the film could do better without him. The carictor he is playing I mean. Half the movie is this tv show host blabbering his head off about all the stuff going on in the film. I felt like I was pausing the movie to watch a commerical about every 15 min or so.

Never seen the original, I liked this movie I've never seen the original, so my perspective is through the eyes of the first time viewer. With that I'd like to say I enjoyed the movie, the acting was good, the story was interesting, and the action was awesome! I don't know how much my opinion would change if I was to compare to the original, but as a stand alone it's a good movie :-)

Robocop 2014 An honest attempt to recapture the original's glory, but falls short. Great visuals, good casting. Questionable design choices. Music editing standard, choice of music could have been better. Musical score was respectful in part to Basil Poledouris' original RoboCop theme. Not bad on its own if you haven't seen the original 1987 classic.

Terrible, just terrible Bad or no acting, splintered plots and decision points, nothing original that matters. Considering we have cyborg, iron man, Pacific rim, etc, this movie needed top bring something more than a second rate remake with bad hunger games commercials to justify a robot program to communize America from criminals.
Worth the money. Theme What happens when a honest man with good character is psychologically drained of any hesitation and given the speed, power and armory of a lethal machine? He goes after the bad guys, which in Detroit is just about everyone. A culture entrenched in low brow thuggery from gangs, police to politicians. A land ripe for the mindset of a business man, Sellers, played by Michael Keaton. Cast A good cast, refreshing to see the super high I.Q. scientist character stray away from the traditional nerdy meek role, played by Oldman. Though his assistant was way off. Aimee Garcia plays Jae Kim. She barely looks as if she passed 5th grade math, never the less a brilliant scientist. Total fail. Keaton plays Sellers, a business man with all the skill set of a used car salesman. He uses his lack of any moral bondaries to manipulate everyone around him with the help of his assistants a sleezy hard nose lawyer and a marketing agent. Business men, lawyers and marketing people, oh my. Just crooks in suits. Effects Spot on. Not cartoonish. Money was spent on quality visuals.

Nice Remake. Warning! (Spoilers) This remake of the Original RoboCop is pretty good, I kept thinking; at least Alex Murphy is still alive in this one. When I saw that he had lost some organs and stuff, I saw shocked. I mean, he wanted to die cause of his condition. But he had much to live for, so he agreed to be strong. It looked wrong when the Doctors were messing with his emotions, keeping him away from his family, inhuman. After the person responsible was dealt with, I was relieved. Overall, This movie is a great remake.

Pretty cool! This movie is really good! The new design for Robocop looks great and the story element of how he comes to be and then deals with being Robocop was great! I especially loved the scene where he first see's himself as he is and just wants to die.. then he slowly accepts his role, but then they rip off his emotions and now he becomes zombie like.. The story really pulled you in. I thought the beginning was slow for a bit until the car explosion but then on, it flows like an action movie should! Samuel Jackson's performance as a heavy handed and biased media anchor was great and also eerily close to the type of news commentary shows we see today!!

Sucked Acting terrible, story terrible, special effects good. So I'll give it two stars for the special effects. The movie was god awful, I grew up watching Robo Cop on TV when it came on as a kid, so thought I'd give this a watch my god was this movie horribly done, I was very disappointed in this remake it was crap and made RoboCop 3 actually look good, and that was the worst in the RoboCop series! If you grew up with RoboCop as a kid and liked them or you like the RoboCop movies and are a fan don't this

Great movie, don't believe the naysayers, check it out for yourself! I Loved what Kinnaman brought to the role. I also love that rather than rely on over the top violence & cheesyily trying to pay too much homage to the 80's version (I loved the original, don't get me wrong) they made it their own RoboCop... It was horrible seeing all the bad reviews from critics with insta-aversion to the word reboot &/or robot for that matter! I urge you to check RoboCop 2014 it's great entertainment!!!
People are hating it for all the wrong reasons!! Looking at you 80s nostalgia lovers.... This movie is in my personal opinion better then the original. The losers that grew up watchong the Original never grew up at all. I grew up with the Original and i have to say, looking back, it is a classic but it has many issues. The New story (2014) Goes threw every thing that the first movie did not even touch upon. The story is strong, the action intense and the Emotion is there. People are hating the movie for all the wrong reasons.

ultimately dissatisfying someone should do a study on why movies are bad. Is it the heavy handed story or the uneven direction that tries to piece together coherency and motivation through editing? I have no idea, but this movie is completely forgettable. Even the action scenes are anti-climactic. Keaton, Jackson and Oldman give it an extra star. They're just cool dudes and I wish they were in a better movie.

Enjoyed thw film but poor HD The films was enjoyable, but the HD was ONLY 480p. This was very disappointing after paying extra for HD. I am pretty sure iTunes rents the full 1080p HD version. Be careful with HD on Google Play. I'm just saying. BTW - I was watching on my MacBoom Pro which is more than capable of full HD. Oh, and the political overtones on the use of "drones" was obvious and calculated.
