Rock of Ages is not a spoof, but it might as well be, given how little there is to root for.
Glenn Kenny
...a cinematic endeavor that, for all intents and purposes, is asking the consumer to put down his or her money to watch movie stars do karaoke.
Laremy Legel
Cruise, as Stacee Jaxx, is the living embodiment of a rock god.
Richard Roeper
Every time an actor belts out a hit, you're reminded that the original, however cheesy, was better.
Christopher Orr
The movie's supporting stars are always, inevitably, winking at the audience, but it's unclear whether the dewy-eyed leads even know how to blink.
Lisa Kennedy
Pour some sugar on it, indeed.

Pleasantly surprised by Tom Cruise If you like cheesy musicals (like me) you will like this film. It is magnificently cheesy. Tom is fantastic as Stacee Jaxx. I'm normally not a Tom cruise fan, but I am strangely attracted to him as Stacee. Great job crazy little Scientology guy!
The funniest film of the year!!!! Its the most fun you will have at the cinema since the first Hangover movie. Great 80s music, great cast and great fun. I was surprised when it flopped when it was in cinema
Could have been better.... I was very excited about this movie when I first seen the commercials for it. Didn't see it in theaters but I did buy the DVD the day it came out. Sadly, I was disappointed. Although I did love the music, the story seemed forced at times as though the writers were trying too hard to make the story line lead up to a specific song. Also, the songs themselves seemed out of place. They seemed too perfect. They were obviously prerecorded songs; I just wish they would have made the effort to make them not so perfect, at least with the concert scenes. The choice of actors is another matter entirely, and I honestly feel that they could have done better. Would have been a pleasant surprise had they gotten actual 80's rockers from the bands the music was from somewhere in this movie, even if only as background characters.
Rock of Ages Love the music, BUT...too much of a musical for a movie and poorly executed. I was very disappointed since Def Leppard has been one of my fave bands since the mid-80s. Even watched at a drive-in, yet I nearly fell asleep. If it weren't for my DL devotion, we would have left less than halfway through. :(
Modern 80's Rock Has NEVER spliced so well with Broadway til now! *One of my favorite 'musical' Broadway'esque' films* FIRST off- you must be a music lover to understand the underlying themes as well as the transitions of the characters themselves. Through the powerful display of fame and dreams coming to life, this sexy and smartly cast soundtrack of the 80's come to life!....a meshing of free-spirited emotion finally meets edgy. That the 1980's. Leather and Lace. Gold and Excess for Glam. Innocence, determination, and motivation were the key ingredients that built the foundation for why this era, although short lived will never be forgotten. Those characteristics shown through the people so heavily influenced and proud of this new music type. Heavy use of guitar and drums demanded attention and respect, Keyboards entranced all with it's techie advanced glittery sounds, and those elements emphasized the heartfelt lyrics that poured from speakers all over every town, flooding America with what we crowned as being 'Powerhouse ballads'.
the epitome of big hair rock & roll, so totally 80's!!! I lived it, wore it, partied to it, it was my 80's through & through. Who knew T Cruise could sing!?! Perhaps if he dedicated as much energy into his "private" life as he does with his method acting... I love love love this blast from my past - 80's still rule!
Cathy Fun storyline and interesting characters. I loved the music! Laughed silly!
Music Great music, stupid story and omg Tom cruise, really, a rock star. Im with the guy who wanted to slit his wrists while watching Tom Cruise's pathetic attempt. When he wasnt on screen the movie was barely tolerable. Dont waste your time or money on this one.
Such a waste of money Horrible movie. Don't watch it. My Girlfriend wanted to see it. We went to the movies and walked out. The audience was laughing at the stupidity. Story line sucked. The singers sucked. The acting was horrible. Worse movie ever. I don't even want to give it a star, but I have to or else I can't rate it lol.
Loved it I'm really not one for musicals, and wasn't ready for what this movie threw at me when I saw it in a theater (was expecting something along the lines of Rock Star or That Thing You Do! I guess.) Anyway, if you like 80's hair bands, have a sense of humor and can take a step back and listen to the genre placed into the setting of a musical, you'll love this movie. Russell Brand is an absolute hoot, as always. And, while I'm sure no big Tom Cruise fan, I have to give credit where it's due... he was awesome as "rock legend" Stacee Jaxx. His mascot is an absolute riot as well, but I won't spoil that for you.
If you like rock n roll, And, if you like musicals, then you'll like this movie! Had some pretty good mash-ups, and it was a great movie over all. Who knew Tom Cruz could sing?
Wow! Every little detail, from the cast ensemble to the sets and choreographed dance moves are a home run out of the park. This is one of those gems that just shines through and through. With classic 80s ballads modernized (Ala Glee taste) you really can't go wrong here if you like musicals, Glee, or rock operas. Tom Cruise shines as Stacee Jaxx, the epitome of a "Rock God." Rent or buy option, easily. I bought it.
Musical madness I love musicals. While this movie will not meet the needs of the heavy metal fans, it is absolutely great 4 hearing widely popular rock songs with the world at large. In musicals people break into song at any moment without rhyme or reason. The singers are fantastic. Mary J Oblige and Tom Cruise were special treats. I loved it.
Hey Man The movie is awesome I loved it Tom Cruise sexy as always but I have to admit my favorite character was Hey Man absolutely love him sooooo coooool I've watched the movie 3 times and im sure to watch it again
Ehh The songs were good but the story line sucked really badly it was kinda corny and you could pretty much guess what happens in the end without watching it but diego bontia is cute
i want my money back Terrible job by the famous actors, awesome job by the newbies. And what was up with the whole gay Alec and Russell part? We get it, there are Gay people in the world but does it have to splattered in every movie/show???? The singing was waaay too dubbed. I prefer the music from all the previous musicals over this crap. I would have given it no stars but that is not an option.
Like a version of High School Musical for adults I really thought that this was going to be like other musical where ppl were always singing but instead the songs fit perfectly and the movie plot itself was pretty good.
Rock of Ages This movie is just plain awful! Tom Cruise as a drunken rock star is embarrassing. Julianne is cute and the music is semi enjoyable but for the most part, do not waste your time and money,

When second-graders Bryce and Juli first meet, Juli knows it's love. Bryce isn't so sure. Beginning that day, and for the next six years, young Bryce (Callan McAuliffe) does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm's length...which isn't easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. Smart, dreamy, independent and willing to stand up for what she believes in, Juli (Madeline Carroll) is different from anyone else he knows and, frankly, it's a little overwhelming. Though disappointed by Bryce's unwillingness to see things her way, or even to see the things in life she finds most meaningful, Juli continues to give her potential dreamboat the benefit of the doubt. Until those doubts stack up so high that she finally thinks maybe she was wrong about him. It's just about the same time Bryce starts to think maybe he was wrong about her, too. But is he too late?
