Wesley Morris
A movie whose punch line is so delightfully absurd that even after you pretty much know what's coming you spit out your Pepsi anyway.
Drew Hunt
Keeping up with the movie's inane plot twists makes for a capricious good time, but an unimaginative denouement turns the whole thing into a fool's errand.
Trevor Johnston
[The] final reel ... descends into the Vortex of Bonkers, delivering fits of unexpected laughter.
Rex Reed
Plods along with dialogue just above the level of crayon scribblings, and the direction by the usually reliable Lasse Hallström is dismayingly sluggish.
Michael Granberry
It's as though the filmmakers lacked the confidence to stick with the basic story, which served every element needed in a Sparks-infused guilty pleasure.
Bilge Ebiri
We genuinely like watching Hough and Duhamel circling around one another, and the movie has a nice sense of place. That all eventually vanishes with a doozy of a third act.

On its own merits, Safe Haven is about as satisfying and filling as a Valentine's Day conversation heart, with far less to say.

Oh I LOVED this movie! I am not really a movie lover... but once in awhile I see a movie that captures my attention and tugs at my heart strings...this was one of them. Normally I love Thrillers the most, and am not into "Romance Movies" because I think they're so fake and too la la la for me... haha. But this one!! Oh I loved it! There was some action in it, and suspense, but it was overall a love story and a really beautiful one. I cried...balled my eyes out at the end. I don't normally do that with movies but this one just really got to me. The actors were fantastic! Especially the guy who played Katie's creepy husband! When I read the book in Summer 2012, I couldn't put it down and kept thinking how good the story was and that I wish it would be made into a movie. I never knew who Nicolas Spark was until that book and didn't realize that lots of his books become movies. This was one that did. I was thrilled. It's a little different than the book but the storyline is the same. I'm buying this. I love it!
