Jonathan F. Richards
Despite a few laggard moments of slow going, Ritchie has pulled off an entertaining coup in giving us a Holmes for the 21st century by digging back to the 19th century original and adding a few...
Peter Rainer
What was the thinking behind all this?
Lisa Kennedy
It's all knotted together, then unraveled with brio, by Holmes and Watson. There are fisticuffs galore, fiery combustion aplenty, and, yes, my dear reader, clever deduction.
J. R. Jones
The very idea of handing him over to professional lad Guy Ritchie, to be played as a punch-throwing quipster by Robert Downey Jr., is so profoundly stupid one can only step back in dismay.
Ty Burr
Downey never winks -- heâ(TM)s too much of a pro for that -- but like the man heâ(TM)s playing, heâ(TM)s much, much smarter than the movie heâ(TM)s in.
David Edelstein
By now we've seen so many good, bad, and indifferent Sherlocks that it's almost a relief to get something different, however wrongheaded. And there's no such thing as too much Downey.

There's something wrong and weird here!!! Isn't insane to rent a movie you want instead of buying whats the point of a rent when you want the movie on your to watch to either pass the time or just to entertain yourself on your on time. I love this movie thats why i ranted about it. Because it's crazy how on an Iphone you can BUY movies AND T.V shows but here you can only RENT MOVIES. Thats my opinion thanks for reading. I gave this 5 stars cuz i love the movie.
Much better than expected The whole cast gave a great performance. The acting was some of the best ive seen in a while. The stunts were jaw dropping and everything fell together perfectly. Great movie, its a little hard to follow but you have to pay attention to the flashblacks and the little details.
Watch this movie if convenient. If inconvenient watch all the same! Smart, funny, & action packed! Robert Downey Jr is the perfect sherlock Holmes!
Downey with one of his best performances; great groundwork for sherlock holmes, can't wait to see part two. Great respect for Robert Downey, Jr., and love Sherlock Holmes
Superb An excellent film that is beautifully filmed supported by top tier acting and a rock solid plot. Loved it.
never gets old. this movie is the best I've seen in years. its definitely on my top five favorites list. the plot line is amazing. don't watch if youre an idiot, you won't understand it and you won't be able to follow it.
Excellent... It's a little fast moving and difficult to follow the first time you watch it. But, it's STILL one of the best movies I've seen and absolutely worth renting and even buying on DVD or blue-ray. !RENT NOW!
Not Bad At All I must say, this is a good, and by good I mean not cheesy and / or over the top, remake of the already multi versions about the mystery solving Sherlock Holmes. The acting was believable. So much so that I had forgotten that Robert Downey Jr was an American pretending to speak correct English. VERY WELL DONE!
Great movie .... Although .... What did this film have to do with the super genius who could salve a mystery by simply walking into the room? I don't understand why they made him a fighter. Or fits Robert's acting style very well but it's not like Sherlock Holmes.
Great movie This was an excellent movie; Fun, witty, and exciting! It does justice to the true literary version of Holmes and the acting makes it all the better.
Amazing I love this film. There has not been anything that has been this mind blowing in a long time.
OK but not memorable Overall an OK movie. Nothing that hasn't been done before. No originality but mildly entertaining. My flight ended with about 15 minutes left and I never even went back to finish it.
Good, But Not a Classic The actors get along well enough and the script is above average in all means. Robert plays a tough and fairly playful Holmes and takes sleuthing to a super hero like level. If you are looking for a twist on action genre movies, this is the film for you. But if you are looking for the Sherlock that graced literature for years, you are sadly out if luck.
Awesome movie Was skeptical originally to watch this movie. Figured it wouldn't be any good but gave it a shot...glad I did. Well worth renting or owning for that matter.
Bad remake Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett was good, this is a poor remake. Irene Adler was a problem for Holmes. New show Sherlock is awesome.
Great ride Does it adhere to the books? No. but it is a fun ride, and Downey and Law are great in their roles.
