J. R. Jones
This debut feature by Kerry Conran is a triumph not only for its technical mastery but for its good taste.
Wally Hammond
The clincher is how the actors are reduced to puppets and ciphers; Paltrow straight-jacketed in her Hildy Johnson-style two-piece and the evidently bored Law reduced throughout half the movie to giving the gimlet eye through flying goggles.
Andrew Sarris
Such an interestingly silly movie that I found myself idly wondering what particular audience was being targeted with its peculiar conceits and infinitude of special effects.
Ed Park
His nostalgia enabled by technology, Conran takes the ghosts in his machine seriously, and the results appear at once meltingly lovely and intriguingly inhuman.
James Berardinelli
Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of style-over- substance movies, but this one is so gorgeous that it's possible to become literally lost in the richness of the images.
Stephanie Zacharek
Ultimately seems more like a fancy mechanical toy than a work of art we can warm up to.

First all-bluescreen movie. Thrilling! For one hour 45 minutes you forget that nothing is real. This is a Saturday morning cliffhanger series, technically excellent, with much of the screen filled with visuals made in a computer. Actors are game and witty, its funny and thrilling. A box of corn and a soda are only thing missing from serial perfection.
Love this! I love the campiness and the sense of boyhood wonder they capture from the 1940s (say). There is adventure, of course, wonderful gadgets and mahem, and the acting is first-rate. I was (and still am, a bit) skeptical of Jude Law as a tough flying ace, but he pulls it off splendidly. Who doesn't love Gwyneth Paltrow (and she's tough herself, in this one!), and Ribisi is one of my new favorites as well. This is a must-see if you love the old campy comic book feel of the Hardy Boys and - better - Tom Swift!
Don't waste your time The only movie I've ever wanted to walk out on. Not worth your time if it was free.

Ask me why you'll hate this movie! Whoever green-lighted this crap should be banned from Hollywood for 20 years. Before they shot this movie, the producer must been stinking rich, because it seems clear they didn't care whether they made their film investment money back or not. If you purposely rent this film I really hope you like it a lot. Just in case, keep a bottle of Crown Royal nearby.
One of my favorites I can't pinpoint why, but this film is on my list of faves. It's a fun sci-fi adventure and really entertaining.
