Soul Men could have been so much more.
Jonathan F. Richards
Considering the canvas the story provides, and the richness of the tradition it taps into, the amount and quality of the music is pretty disappointing.
Michael Phillips
This one's only fair, but it has its low-down wiles and its moments.
Ben Mankiewicz
It is not a perfect film but it is a nice, solid reminder of how great Bernie Mac was.
Ben Lyons
It really is bittersweet to watch Mac in one of his final performances. He makes the most of pretty average material here.
Christy Lemire
The movie crams in myriad needless subplots -- ostensibly to provide padding, which only draws attention to how thin the original story really is.

Unfortunately, [it's] not good enough to make up for the unnecessary proliferation of Viagra humor, rectal-exam jokes and comedy at the expense of women.

Great, Awesome! This film is sooooo much fun! It has every emotional color in the human experience. OMG! I'm in love with this movie. It's broad comedy, but the actors NEVER comment on what they're doing. They are IN IT ALL THE WAY, no blinking of the eye, the humor is just natural from the crazy story. Bravo to the whole production!
Funny! I love this movie! My fav scene is the dog scene! Love it!!

The Reader
Academy Awards' winner Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road) delivers a dynamic performance in this "tale of eroticism, secrecy and guilt" (Claudia Puig, USA Today) set in turbulent post-Nazi Germany. Bringing to life the celebrated international novel, Winslet is riveting as Hanna Schmitz, a lonely, working-class woman who experiences a brief but intense affair with a teenage boy. Years later they meet again: Hanna now a defendant in a notorious case and her ex-lover, now a law student, holding the secret to her salvation. Directed by three-time Academy Awards' nominee Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and featuring Ralph Fiennes (The Duchess) as the grown man still reeling from Hanna's influence, The Reader is a "moving, romantic and poignant story, (Roger Friedman, Fox News) about the difficult distance between truth and reconciliation
Hurricane Season
Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) delivers a superstar performance in this powerful story based on real events. Amid the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina, one coach attempts the impossible: create a winning basketball team using players from five of the hardest-hit high schools in the area. Featuring Isaiah Washington (Grey's Anatomy), Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Shad Moss aka Bow Wow (Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift), rap megastar Lil Wayne, and Bonnie Hunt (Cheaper by the Dozen films), Hurricane Season takes an honest look at disaster and shows how heroes can rise from the most devastating of circumstances.
Grace is Gone
In one of his most acclaimed performances, John Cusack makes an astonishing transformation as Stanley Philips, a sad, disconnected man unable to tell his young daughters their mother, a soldier, has died in Iraq. Instead, he takes the girls on a road trip, where their innocent charm helps him rediscover a healing joy he thought he'd lost forever.
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
In Werner Herzog's new film Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is to scoring drugs while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes) and together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.
MPAA Rating: R for drug use and language throughout, some violence and sexuality
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes and Val Kilmer

Inside an old New York City apartment, Clyde (Brendan Sexton III) looks after his cousin (Antonella Lentini) following the death of her roommate. He begins to suspect tenants were involved after meeting Sam and Rich (James Russo, Armando Riesco) who seem overly concerned with his cousin's well being. As his exploration into the death continues, Clyde's perception of what is real and imagined becomes increasingly blurred.
Compliance
Inspired by true events, COMPLIANCE tells the chilling story of just how far one might go to obey a figure of authority. On a particularly busy day at a suburban Ohio fast food joint, high-strung manager Sandra (Ann Dowd) receives a phone call from a police officer saying that an employee, a pretty young blonde named Becky (Dreama Walker), has stolen money from a customer. Convinced she's only doing what's right, Sandra commences the investigation, following step-by-step instructions from the officer at the other end of the line, no matter how invasive they become.
The Way Back
Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris (Apollo 13), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) and Colin Farrell (In Bruges) star in this epic saga of survival from six-time Oscar-nominee Peter Weir (Witness, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World). Inspired by an incredible true story, THE WAY BACK begins in 1940 when seven prisoners attempt the impossible: escape from a brutal Siberian gulag. Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on, is the profound impact the journey will have on him. Inexperienced as a trekker, Tom soon discovers that he will not be alone on this journey.
