Did somebody just reach through the space-time continuum and pull out a white rabbit?
Laremy Legel
One of the most accessible and entertaining films of the year.
Peter Rainer
The young cast is mostly callow and TV-bland and the special effects don't quite seem worth that hefty price tag, but overall this is a presentable addition to the franchise.
Stephanie Zacharek
With Star Trek Abrams honors the show's legacy without fossilizing its best qualities. Instead, he's whisked it off to a planet where numbing nostalgia can't kill it, and where the future is still something to look forward to.
Joe Williams
The wit and youthful energy that's been infused into the new Star Trek should enable this venerable franchise to live longer and prosper more handsomely.
Mick LaSalle
In going back to tell the Enterprise story from the beginning, Star Trek presses collective emotional buttons people didn't even know they had. At its best, the effect is like seeing life panoramically, past and future, simultaneous and magnificent.

Star Trek goes back to the legend's roots with a boldness that brings a fatigued franchise back to life.

Best Ever! Seriously, anyone who thinks this film is anything but a 5 star isn't a true Star Trek fan, this film encapsulates the epitome of each of the characters, gives the series new life that it couldn't otherwise obtain, and is destined to outdistance Star Wars provided the current cast and production can stay together. Best of all time.
Great cast! I love the original star trek movies and I'm glad Abrams paid homage to the original characters. He couldn't have picked a better actor to play Bones, who put on the best performance in my opinion. Choreographed fight scenes are kind of lame but the special effects more than make up for it. Can't wait for the sequel!
Great film, disappointed viewer. Beyond incredible....only movie I'm willing to watch a thousand times over. But 3 stars because someone didn't see fit to have the option to watch this android version film with subtitles/closed captions. Apple/iTunes does though. :-(
Best reboot I've ever seen! I thought at first that the way thay explained it being so different from the original was just a big cop-out but it's actually very Trek! I love the cast, I love the awesome new ship, I love the way the characters met each other & the way they interact with each other, and I love that Leonard Nimoy was in it as the original Spock! I can't wait to see what happens next in Star Trek Into Darkness! - 34-year-old OG Trekkie
Really Good! I really enjoyed this movie. I fault like there was some plot holes like how a Romulan mining ship from only 30 years in the future could take out the federation fleet or how Spock was not able to save the Romulan home world, but it was explained in the comics. Besides that, it was a really good movie with wonderful actors. A worthy reboot of a great legacy.
You don't have to be a fan to enjoy this movie It's not only a sequel that manages to keep continuity with previous movies, it's a reboot of the franchise. Takes the time-travel trope every Star Trek fan has grown to hate, and actually did it in a way that makes for a pretty awesome, fun, and fresh addition to a franchise that, at the time, seemed to have run it's course. Plenty of fan service, and lots of stuff continuity nerds can have fun with, yet it's still open and approachable for people who have never seen a Star Trek movie before. A must see.
EXCELLENT REMAKE FROM START TO FINISH J.J. ABRAMS IS WHAT STAR TREK REALLY NEEDED A NEW STYLE,A NEW LOOK. I wasn't a big Star Trek fan until this movie came out. I mean this movie has a great story and the cast members are top notch you can tell this movie was well planned. I would gave this movie 10 stars if they had 10 stars. And Eric Bana was an excellent choice to play the angry Romulan! LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH I NOW OWN IT GREAT SCI FI REMAKE OF A CLASSIC!
A great modernization of a timeless show, Abrams nailed it with this film. From beginning to end, this movie feels like authentic Star Trek. Pine and Quinto play their parts so well. It has a perfect mix of action and character development (great scripting), the sort of balance that truly satisfies. After watching it, I had an urge to go watch the Star Trek episodes because of the intrigue this movie gives a person about the Star Trek universe. This is definitely a must watch and even a must own.
Not a Joke At All I was nervous about Star Trek (2009) in the months and weeks leading up to the film. The thought of recasting all of these iconic characters gave me great concern. The actors selected for the key roles in this film were careful to honour the roles given to them, without it becoming a mockery or a farce of the original. Probably the best actor and most under appreciated in the film is Karl Urban, who played Leonard McCoy. Urban played the role with homage to Deforrest Kelley. Kelley was the actor who played McCoy in the original television series and early feature films. I felt that Urban was almost channeling Kelley at several points in the film, however he still made the role his own. This was really true of the all the cast and is probably as much a credit to the film maker J. J. Abrams as it is the actors. You could see how this could easily have turned into a Star Trek joke of sorts, had the actors over portrayed these characters that are so well known - overplaying to the point or ridicule. But they didn't. They were true to their roles without it becoming a series of stereotype scenes for each character. Well done.
Lots of fun I really enjoyed this modern take on the classic characters that seems to get the Star Trek universe out of the funk it's been in for many years. It's much more action-oriented while still retaining much of the "science" part of sci-fi that Trek is known for. I enjoyed the many years of the original cast on the big screen, felt like they had their good finale, and thought this reboot was a slick way to return to the old cast of characters we came to love so much.
Amazing! =A= Loved this movie! Amazing start of a different decade of Star Trek, also Zachary Quinto is a fantastic Spock! Loved Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and of course Zachary Quinto in this movie. I give it an 11/10! Perfect movie, I recommend it to everyone Star Trek fan or not! P.S.. the romance between Spock and Uhura is unbelievably cute, adorable, and romantic! I am now a Spochura shipper!!! ♥♥♥
Fantastic Movie! I am a big star trek fan but even if I weren't, I would love this movie. My wife hates star trek and even she enjoyed it. The characters are great and the feel of 'old trek' is there but in a new way. Its got plenty of humor in it too "you have numb tongue? i can fix that". I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to watch a fun and entertaining movie.
Lens flare, as a standalone character. This is a fun film. Easily accessible for everyone, great performances, great action, and it's a joy to see one of my favorite universes have some life breathed into it. This film is worth just about everyone's time. That being said my fanboy side cleaves off one star on this review. If you enjoy listening to needless negative criticism about a great film, continue reading. The villain in this film is relatively weak. Sure he has great presence on screen but i just don't understand the manufactured anger. I see what they are trying to do with Nero, but his emotions do not feel believable with barely any on screen context. Waiting 25 years in space, essentially floating out there waiting for Spock, seems a bit like a loose end to me. If they could have found a way to flesh out a little more of a psychological break on screen, the film would have been better for it. Instead we are left wondering just what it was that he had been doing out there for 25 years. BUT HE'S MAD. I also do not particularly enjoy explaining complicated time travel to people. This movie causes me to do this. Say the words "parallel universe" and watch the eyes glaze over.
New story is a masterful reboot After being slightly annoyed that J.J. Abrams rewrote history using a clever wormhole gimmick, I looked a little deeper at this movie. Live acting and CGI are masterfully interwoven to create a visually stunning masterpiece. Also, although some story from the original is ripped apart, the new stuff makes sense and still allows for the characters we know and love to meet and retain their personalities. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who loves good Sci-Fi or Star Trek.
Not just a good reboot but a great movie I have to be honest. I never cared for the original Star Trek series. I was always more of a Star Wars fan. I thought I wouldn't like the movie because I'm not a fan of the original. Man, I was wrong. This movie is great and all of the actors do a great job. JJ Abrams knows how to make great films.
Great Great movie. I wasn't sure I was going to like it cause of the change in the time line but they created a whole new Trek universe and a new twist on the charters that makes them even more interesting. My wife liked the movie. She said "Im going to fall asleep in this theater. I'm not going to like this movie " She watched the whole movie cried at the start laughed , through out and love all the action. Great movie
