... while I can't call it a home run, I'll say it's a solid base hit.
Joe Williams
Singer's revival of childhood wonder and timeless heroism [is] an extraordinary feat of movie magic.
J. Hoberman
The movie may not be a single-bound building-leaper but Bryan Singer reconfigures the daddy of all comic-book sagas into something knowing, witty, and even sensitive.
J. R. Jones
What could possibly justify making a Superman movie that runs 154 minutes? Plenty of films last longer, but their characters are generally sharp enough to recognize a guy with or without his glasses.
Scott Tobias
There's a thin line between preserving an icon and merely delivering on an expensive franchise, but Singer's genuine connection to the Superman legend overcomes his predilection toward playing it safe.
Stephanie Zacharek
Superman, born in 1938, is still very much alive in 2006. The Man of Steel has so skillfully bent the bars of our imagination that he seems real to us. And in a sense, he is.

The much ballyhooed movie, far from great and far from short (2 1/2 hours!), is still great fun.

Beautiful/Lazy This is a lovely movie, but it's slow and I'm not sure why they chose the visual palette that they did for the kind of movie that it is. My biggest gripe is how close it stays to the beats of Superman: the Movie. Been there/done that but better. This movie understands Superman where Man of Steel does not. I'd still watch MoS over this every time.
Awesome!! I love this movie! I don't understand how anyone can hate it!
The BEST Hey margarita why r u such a hater??? This was an AWESOME MOVIE, so quit HATING!!!!
The worst! So bad! its a shame movie had so much potential!

It's Bryan Singer's Superman. I liked it, but it's more a tribute movie or "fanmade" with huge budget. People complained that it had too many dialogues and less action and Supes was creepily stalking Lois. I don't like the idea that he had a son here. They made love when Superman doesn't have powers in Superman II right? It wasn't Brandon Routh's fault. The writers had no idea what they're doing. They could've used/made J.J. Abrams script.
Disappointing Awesome effects & horrible plot a good movie doesn't make!

Too bad they gave up on Singer after this one One of the few movies I can recall seeing in which I wanted to stand up and cheer for just after the opening credits. Singer takes the original Superman story and carries it on in spirit and in some surprising directions. I got chills from Brandon Routh's dead-on Chris Reeves as Superman impression. All the actors are great here and the spectacle is exactly what you'd expect from a Superman movie.
Disappointing Superman is difficult to pull off any, even when you get the classic elements right. This film didn't even get those right The biggest mistake was trying to make this a sequel to Superman II. Unfortunately, it is a more fitting sequel to Superman IV. Blech. The time frame is all wrong to be a sequel. Routh did a terrific job and in certain scenes is spookily channeling Reeve, but Bosworth and Singer don't have a CLUE who Lois Lane is. Shame
Not worth it Terrible movie, his name is superman let's see more than two scenes with him doing something amazing. This could have been so big but failed miserably.
Follow smallville Thus movie should have waited for smallville. To finish, so it would of been a followup to the show. And in this way reboot the movie franchise . In a good way.
stay super! they made this such an emotional story and kept it simple and safe. i'm sure had the writers been given a green light for a sequel, it would have opened up the possibilities. <3 this movie, sob. . .

Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. MPAA Rating: PG-13 - 2012 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures Funding, LLC.
