Wesley Morris
A moderately smart movie would have pushed back against the formula. That Awkward Moment simply mistakes being obnoxious for being clever.
Adam Markovitz
The movie's ideas about relationships would've felt middle-of-the-road in the '80s, and its big epiphany moments (Guys can fall in love, too!) are shallow enough to make you long for the...
Randy Cordova
First-time writer-director Tom Gormican keeps the dialogue moving at a rapid pace, which doesn't obscure the fact that most of what is said is dopey and witless.
Bilge Ebiri
Only a sociopath would behave this carelessly, and as such, That Awkward Moment makes for an interesting study in abnormal criminal behavior.
Peter Travers
Take three horny guys, all twentysomethings, mix with a plot that was old last century, and serve to an audience so desperate toilet gags they might forgive a movie wired only with clichés.
Liam Lacey
Might be more aptly titled Those Awkward 94 Minutes.

An Awkward Wave... I honestly thought I was going to hate it. Throughout the first 30 minutes I even went back and forth loathing Efron's character. And then it began to hit close to home. And by the end, I was in tears. Which is personally always an indication of me fully in love with a movie. Definitely a romantic date night comedy. P.S. Our awkward moment, was his first awkward wave. The rest was history. So...

Don't watch it. The ending was very predictable, it also was not even funny, and very boring because I had seen the same plot in tons of other movies before it! Basically the plot is guys who make a part not to get into a committed relationship, then guess what... They end up in a committed relationship!!! Wow they TOTALLY surprised me there! (Sarcasm if your wondering).

Don't do it I can't believe I paid for a Zach Efron movie, but I was buzzed and thought I might be pleasantly surprised. Nope. This is the most cookie-cutter, formulaic rom-com I've seen in years. No redeeming value. It gets worse by the minute. You would honestly be better entertained by watching 20-year-old repeats of Friends. Don't pay for this, or waste your time if it becomes free.

I give it my blessing... if you're anything like me, you had this in the queue for quite some time but the description didn't edge you to watch it immediately, so it took you forever to watch it. I'm glad I finally did. This would almost be a rom-com, but it has a healthy dosage of comedy to make it suitable for ever the most skeptical guys.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who last teamed in the box-office smash Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, now star in Step Brothers, directed by Adam McKay (Talladega Nights). When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together.
