Wesley Morris
It's smart and droll.
Christy Lemire
The sense of detachment that is a signature of Sofia Coppola's work -- the coolly distant, stylishly dreamlike way she regards her characters -- works to her detriment in The Bling Ring.
Cath Clarke
This is a funny, sarky, bang-on portrayal of the freakiness of celeb obsession. The story would sound outrageous - if it wasn't true.
Richard Roeper
Emma Watson is comedic gold.
James Berardinelli
All the characters are shallow and one-dimensional and, while one can argue that this is the point, it doesn't make for 90 minutes of engaging cinema.
Richard Brody
Daring to face these often noxious, seemingly empty phenomena on aesthetic terms, and taking on a degree of their flatness and simplicity, Coppola renders them surprisingly substantial.

Coppola neither makes a case for her characters nor places them inside of some kind of moral or critical framework; they simply pass through the frame, listing off name brands and staring at their phones.
User reviews

Absolute trash! This has to be the WORST movie that I have ever seen. I don't even know where to begin. Horrible acting. Horrible writing. Horrible directing. There are so many scenes that have little or nothing to do with the story and make you say WTF. Sophia Coppola really needs to go back film school. This movie is a perfect example of nepotism and how it somehow unfortunately gets you farther in the world. Save your hard earned money.

Not as good as I wanted it to be. I didn't have huge expectations for this movie, but I was hoping for more than I got. Visually, the movie is stunning. It was made with a very good eye, and I feel like, if anything, it is a movie made for the visual aspect rather than the content. The content is what was lacking. The story itself is what got me interested in the movie, but in the end, it came across as very bland. Not to mention, I think there was a lot of expectations from Emma Watson, and her performance was lackluster.

Just Bland I spent the majority of the film wondering when the action was going to pick up, but it turns out what felt like a lead up was the actual meat of the movie. Characters are not as developed as they need to be and the plot is rather monotonous throughout. It wasn't painful to watch. In fact, it was so bland that it didn't elicit any sort of emotional response. It just was. Find something else, save this for when you need to fall asleep.

Poor film, poor direction This movie had so much potential. Sofia Coppola just tries too hard to make this an artsy film. When in reality it's a fun project. She is all over the place with the characters. They never develope. And when you think they are about to develope she holds back. I didn't understand the connection between the characters. The only reason I kept watching was to find out how it ends. In the end you never find out anything new than what you already heard in the news. Horrible choice for director. Had potential.

good film dumb dumb kids Funny film. so hard to believe this actually happened but it did. And didn't anyone ever tell these kids ever about TJ Maxx?? Seems like that could have avoided all this drama and they could have satiated their needs for last years designer jeans and shoes for about 80 bucks and gone home without breaking any laws.

Ginger & Rosa
London, 1962, when the Cold War meets the Sexual Revolution. Two teenage girls -- GINGER & ROSA -- are inseparable. They skip school together, talk about love, religion and politics and dream of lives bigger than their mothers' domesticity. But the growing threat of nuclear war casts a shadow over their lives. Ginger (Elle Fanning) is drawn to poetry and protest, while Rosa (Alice Englert) shows Ginger how to smoke cigarettes, kiss boys and pray. Both rebel against their mothers (Jodhi May and Christina Hendricks). Meanwhile, Ginger's pacifist father, Roland (Alessandro Nivola) seems a romantic, bohemian figure to the girls. He encourages Ginger's 'Ban-the-Bomb' activism, while Rosa starts to take a very different interest in him. As Ginger's parents fight and fall apart, Ginger finds emotional sanctuary with a gay couple, both named Mark (Timothy Spall and Oliver Platt), and their American friend, the poet Bella (Annette Bening). Finally, as the Cuban Missile Crisis escalates -- and it seems the world itself may come to an end -- the lifelong friendship of the two girls is shattered. Ginger clutches at one hope; if she can help save the world from extinction, perhaps she too will survive this moment of personal devastation.
Drinking Buddies
Luke and Kate are co-workers at a Chicago brewery, where they spend their days drinking and flirting. They're perfect for each other, except that they're both in relationships. But you know what makes the line between "friends" and "more than friends" really blurry? Beer.
Spring Breakers
From visionary director Harmony Korine comes a bold new vision of the seasonal American ritual known as spring break — the bacchanalia of bikinis, beach parties and beer bongs that attracts hordes of college students each year. Brit (Ashley Benson), Faith (Selena Gomez), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens) and Cotty (Rachel Korine) are best friends anxious to cut loose on their own spring break adventure, but they lack sufficient funds. After holding up a restaurant for quick cash, the girls head to the shore in a stolen car for what they discover is the party of a lifetime. They're thrown in jail — but quickly bailed out by Alien (James Franco), a local rapper, drug pusher and arms dealer who lures them into a criminal underbelly that's as lurid as it is liberating for a close-knit gang of girlfriends who are still figuring out their path. With a hallucinatory musical score by Cliff Martinez (DRIVE) and Skrillex, SPRING BREAKERS is an electrifying pop poem to girls gone wild. Harmony Korine unleashes a ferocious, feverish and furiously alive youth quake examining the sensory overload of a new generation of restless youth.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Two young American women, Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) come to Barcelona for a summer holiday. Vicky is sensible and engaged to be married; Cristina is emotionally and sexually adventurous. In Barcelona, they're drawn into a series of unconventional romantic entanglements with Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), a charismatic painter, who is still involved with his tempestuous ex-wife Maria Elena (Penélope Cruz). Set against the luscious Mediterranean sensuality of Barcelona, VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA is Woody Allen's funny and open-minded celebration of love in all its configurations.
Prince Avalanche
An odd couple of sorts, introspective and stern Alvin (Rudd) and his girlfriend's brother, Lance (Hirsch), dopey and insecure, leave the city behind to spend the summer of 1988 repainting the traffic lines on a desolate country highway where the surrounding areas have been ravaged by wildfire. In this solitary backdrop, the two bicker and joke with each other as they reflect on their relationships with women, resulting in a clumsy fall head first into an unlikely friendship.
Frances Ha
Frances (Greta Gerwig) lives in New York, but she doesn't really have an apartment. Frances is an apprentice for a dance company, but she¹s not really a dancer. Frances has a best friend named Sophie, but they aren't really speaking anymore. Frances throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as their possible reality dwindles. Frances wants so much more than she has but lives her life with unaccountable joy and lightness. FRANCES HA is a modern comic fable that explores New York, friendship, class, ambition, failure, and redemption.
The Angels' Share
Winner of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize, "The Angels' Share" is a comic fable about wasted talent and what happens when we are given a chance in life. It would be hard to see Robbie as a man worthy of redemption. He's constantly watching out for a gang of thugs looking to settle a family grudge, his girlfriend is giving birth to a baby while her father offers him money to leave Glasgow, and he's serving 300 hours of community service. But when Robbie meets Harry, the gruff but benevolent man in charge of his sentence, he finds a hidden talent for Scotch whiskey -- and a new chance at life. For distillers the angels' share is the whiskey lost to evaporation each year, and that little fact makes a rare cask of whiskey the perfect target for a heist. A hilarious story about second chances, THE ANGELS' SHARE is tender crowd-pleaser from legendary filmmaker Ken Loach ("The Wind that Shakes the Barley", "Kes") and screenwriter Paul Laverty.
