Wesley Morris
Every hand that reaches into a wardrobe, every nervous trip into that basement just gets on your nerves. Satan needs to get over himself.
Michael O'Sullivan
In The Conjuring, the scary casts out the spirit of the silly, permanently, and with a vengeance.
Philip Brown
The Conjuring uses every stock scare in the horror movie playbook for a dumb, yet charmingly traditional haunted house picture that manages to feel more retro than rehashed.
Cath Clarke
Wan builds mounting dread with silence and suspense, lingering the camera unsettlingly long here, creaking a door there.
Bruce Diones
Wan ... builds the many bumps in the night into a small Hitchcockian symphony of terror by way of long, eerie tracking shots, dramatic silences, and sudden scares that are frighteningly immersive.
Ian Buckwalter
...there were moments where it seemed the entire theater was holding its breath. We were united in one feeling: terror.

Realy now Do to it had my Nabors in in it I have to agree with Phil Brown stock crap with to of the biggest jokes that ever passed for paranormal what ever they called them self's Ed is not with us anymore hope good forgave him . now for the movie it self good cast and timing was not that far off and I did get a few laughs from it so 3 and 1/2 stars for entertaining value but living where I do just give me a good scare not bill true when we her in CT now better, of and for the record I now live in that so called house in Southington Ct
Amazing I love this movie sooooooo much i was sooo scared and when I went to bed because I watched the movie at night I went to bed and I kept turning the light on thinking there was someone else there!!! I absolutely think this is the best horror movie I have ever seen I was sitting on the edge of my seat!!! This movie definetly deserves five stars!!! ☆☆☆☆☆
Awesome AND scary I saw this movie in theaters and it was so good. I love how it doesn't rely on gore to disturb the audience; they use the real incidences to freak you out. They follow the story pretty accurately and the acting was better than most horror movies. I'm not scared easily at all but this one got to me in parts. A must see! And they don't reveal what the woman saw because in real life she's never told anybody.
Finally a Good Horror Movie I generally don't like horror movies, but this one had my attention from the preview. I typically like the whole "demon possession" thing and this movie didn't make it cheesy or unbelievable at all. I saw it in the theater at a late night showing when it was first released and I didn't get to sleep until 2 AM. That's the sign of a good horror movie!
The Conjuring Revived Horror The Conjuring is the scariest, ominous modern day horror film to come about. It depicts a true paranormal case probed by demonalogists. The Conjuring offers some good acting, legit, spine chilling scares, unrivalled creepiness thanks to a featured doll and great pacing of a build up of events. This is how horror movies that aspire to be scary should be. Just thinking of rewatching it freaks me out. James Wan is an amazing horror director.
Awesome Definitely at least worth renting. It's pretty scary even if you don't usually get that scared, and has the most touching storyline of any horror movie I've watched. Even if you don't find it scary, it had a good enough storyline to keep you interested and immersed in it. Totally recommend it!!!
Scary good I don't normally watch these type of movies for the simply fact they don't scare me , but I was shockingly suprised this one did scare me this was a extremely good movie intense , scary , awesome story line well played out , this is the greatest type of movie I have seen in a long time , and im now convinced this is a true story and the events did actually happen , they did a good job with this movie wish there was more movies like this , I now have to get this on DVD.
Surprisingly Good I didn't think this movie would actually pull off the horror theme as so many movies before have tried and failed miserably. I was wrong, it is an amazingly done movie that practically had me on the edge of my seat. I love the fact that the director decided to implement more believable and simplistic elements of suspense - a creaking door, thumping noises, dead silences that lead up to that anticipated moment of terror that just delivers. The acting was done very well and captured the emotions of genuine fear and terror.
Great movie! I'm a huge horror fan, & I knew that being one of Lorraine Warren's stories, this movie wouldn't be the recycled crap I'm used to seeing lately. It definitely didn't disappoint! Great story, & just the right amount of creepiness & jump scares to make one awesome movie. It didn't scare me, but no movie has ever truly scared me. Creepy though, definitely, & that's good enough for me! The fact that it's a true story, (even the doll story really happened,) make it that much better. Loved it!
GREAT MOVIE FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY!! Seriously great movie to watch with not just your man so you 2 can hold one another, hide behind or cover eachothers eyes & ears.... JUAN! LOL!!! But my 10 & 11 year old LOVE &hate this movie ;-) its one of very few movies we watch together, eat some pizza, a bowl of pop corn & ice cream together :) ♥ and I usually don't get scared of movie's but this is one movie tbat had me gettin jumpy lol great scary movie made since I don't know WHEN! !!
A movie that will have ypu on tje edge of your seat scared crapless....i love movies based on true stories...i have a gift myself were i see things before they happen i can tell u things about your life and i know when someone is sick amd going ro die or recently passed...im not a stupid pshycic however you spell it..its a gift im part native american irish..mixed...i love tjis movie...:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
EXCELLENT! ★ It scares me so much still and I watched one year ago. It scares me because my grandpa told me that there's a museum that holds that creepy doll and a old man touch it and laughed at it then he went to the parking lot, and had a heart attack and died from that CREEPY DOLL! It still gives me nightmares!!!!
Even though its scary, the R rating is unfair. Works well as both your standard haunting flick, and as a tribute to real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The R rating is very harsh. Other than the fact that this movie deals with disturbing subject matter, nothing in this movie is that much rougher than a PG-13. My guess is they were going for that rating, but didn't comply with cuts ordered by the MPAA. Poltergeist is just as explicit, and it's rated PG.

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" -- or, rather, a homicidal boy in Stanley Kubrick's eerie 1980 adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel. With wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and psychic son Danny (Danny Lloyd) in tow, frustrated writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) takes a job as the winter caretaker at the opulently ominous, mountain-locked Overlook Hotel so that he can write in peace. Before the Overlook is vacated for the Torrances, the manager (Barry Nelson) informs Jack that a previous caretaker went crazy and slaughtered his family; Jack thinks it's no problem, but Danny's "shining" hints otherwise. Settling into their routine, Danny cruises through the empty corridors on his Big Wheel and plays in the topiary maze with Wendy, while Jack sets up shop in a cavernous lounge with strict orders not to be disturbed. Danny's alter ego, "Tony," however, starts warning of "redrum" as Danny is plagued by more blood-soaked visions of the past, and a blocked Jack starts visiting the hotel bar for a few visions of his own. Frightened by her husband's behavior and Danny's visit to the forbidding Room 237, Wendy soon discovers what Jack has really been doing in his study all day, and what the hotel has done to Jack.
