A long, chemistry-free slog through the zombified countryside.
Chuck Wilson
The Dead, with its vast, pitiless landscapes and moral seriousness, is Night of the Living Dead reimagined as a Sergio Leone western. It's a knockout.
"The Dead," evocatively filmed in grainy 35mm, might carry the cinematic vibe of an old-school, flesh-eating adventure, but as it should be with stories like this, it's not a pretty picture.
Tom Horgen
Beyond its auspicious premise -- survivors fighting a zombie outbreak against the continent's scorching vistas -- there's little else to chew on here.

Best zombie movie i've seen in a while! This movie is actually believable. The zombies are realistic and not cheesy like most zombie movies these days. The plot is on point. Just a good movie. 5 for 5

THE BEST ZOMBIE MOVIE!! I am a zombie fan and let me tell you... this movie is 1st class! If you are looking for a blood & guts, full time gore, then this movie is not for you. If you are looking for a realistic, beautifully filmed story with characters you root for & great zombie moments too... rent this!! The zombie footage is more than 'moments'... there are zombies throughout... but you are watching a story unfold here. The soundtrack is wonderful. I just can't say enough! This movie is 'filet mignon' when out there is plenty of zombie movies that are just 'ground beef'. Rent this! I'm buying it!

No Good One of the worst zombie movies I have seen yet. Hardly any dialogue, poor plot, it was a desperate attempt for a movie. The zombies were not bad at all. The characters were lame. I wish I had 2 more hands ao I could give this movie 4 thumbs down.

Excellent Zombie adventure. This is the first African zombie film I've seen and it was a good one. The zombies were well done and the plot reasonable. The ending was almost "typical" but had a nice twist. One thing I like to see in a zombie flick is adherence to the standard zombie science (biting, feeding habits, killing them, etc.). Movies that go outside the standard are less enjoyable. The zombies in "The Dead" fit the standard to the letter. I didn't see any violations of the zombie laws. The only negatives were the driving scenes. They're supposed to be on a road. I don't think roads generally are covered with shrubs.

Fantastic Zombie Movie!!! This movie is definitely worth watching and I consider myself a pretty big zombie fan. Traditional Romero zombies with a great plot, great acting, and cool location. I really wish this movie came out to theaters in the US, I feel like I missed out on something great up until now. There need to be more films like this, Im really pleasantly surprised at how fun this movie is. It stays true to the genre and isnt boring at all in my opinion, the situations felt plausible which is what makes it so entertaining.
Unique and well made I got this movie at random because i love zombie movies. i was surprised at the depth of character development, the story line is great and the zombies are the traditional voodoo zombie style. I was very amazed how great it was and am glad i got it. Dont expect a ton of action like most other zombie movies but a fabulously developed movie. Well done.

Wow ....utter tripe! Ok, so reading the good reviews I downloaded this instead of another film I'd already seen (The Mist). I was kind of expecting some sort of generic Zombie post apocalyptic film with the usual scares and suspense etc. This provides none of them! The characters and plot are boring as hell. The story and the way it unfolds is truly dire. The zombies are absolutely rubbish! I like my zombies to be fast and aggressive like 28 days later or Dawn of the dead. Most encounters are really hammy and eeked out for far too long. If you've seen Austin powers and can remember the steam roller moment, that's exactly what you can expect with every zombie scene. ZZZZzzzz snorefest!
Looks great I'm definitely watching this tomorrow. The zombies are actual zombies who don't run around, I'm mean seriously, this isn't c.o d black ops where zombies just run at u. This is how an original zombie film should look. I loved I am legend so I'm sure ill love this.
Not At All As Bad As All Are Saying Here As to most of the other trash that is being pushed out every Tuesday, this movie was definitely watchable. Almost as good as "Flight Of The Dead", and I didn't expect that to be good as it was either. This movie is definitely worth a rent.
One of the best! Fantastic take on the zombie genre. Realistic and entertaining!
Good movie! Its a great movie. Its a little sad though :( Don't let people steer you away its defiantly worth watching
Horrible Total waste of your time, brain power and especially your $$$!!!!!!
One of the worst zombie movies ever made Some military guy wandering around in desert land running from super slow aboriginal zombies meets a native military guy & they ride around in a truck together. There's pretty much the entire movie. Save your money.
Chazzychase Very Romero-esque,great gore, the best zombie movie to come out in awhile

This critically acclaimed Sundance breakout is hailed as one of the best horror films of the year. Tormented by an unknown entity, a young couple fights to survive a road trip-turned-nightmare when they're trapped in a claustrophobic backwoods maze on a dark road. On one of their first dates, Tom (Iain De Caestecker of TV's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D) and Lucy (Alice Englert of BEAUTIFUL CREATURES) drive to a music festival in a remote countryside village. But when they leave the main road to look for their hotel they quickly become hopelessly lost. Misleading road signs send them in circles and soon night sets in. The first film from music icon Slash (of Guns N' Roses fame) and the latest from the producers of THE EYE and THE RING, NOTHING LEFT TO FEAR is based on the true-life demonic folklore of Stull, Kansas. Wendy (Emmy®-Nominee Anne Heche of TV's HUNG) and Dan (James Tupper of TV's REVENGE) move their family from the big city to a sleepy Kansas town and take over preaching duties from retiring Pastor Kingsman (Clancy Brown of TV's SLEEPY HOLLOW). Unbeknownst to them, their new home is actually one of the seven known gateways to Hell. The family's quiet new beginning is savagely derailed by a charismatic but emotionally conflicted man of the cloth. Directed by the protégé of Oscar®-Winner Gore Verbinski, this heart-pounding thriller costars Ethan Gregory Peck (THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE).

Critics have called it "OPEN WATER on a ski lift" and "JAWS in the snow." It remains perhaps the most intense and terrifying film of 2010: As Sunday evening falls, three snowboarding friends decide to take one last run down the slope. Halfway up the mountain, their chair lift stops, the lights go out, and the resort closes for the week. They are stranded, but the worst is still to come. A storm is approaching. Frostbite is setting in. And on the ground below them, a pack of hungry wolves have gathered to wait. Kevin Zegers (DAWN OF THE DEAD, WRONG TURN), Shawn Ashmore (X-MEN, THE RUINS), and Emma Bell star in the relentlessly chilling thriller from writer/director Adam Green (HATCHET) that Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News hails as "a vicious, scary and horrifying experience...FROZEN is a howling good time!"
