It's a hard movie to dislike. But try.
Mark Olsen
There is much to like here, a sense of nuance and nonjudgmental emotional openness, yet Kasdan's teenage miniaturism never quite blooms.
Sara Stewart
[An] inoffensive but bland ode to the talky high school movies of John Hughes and Cameron Crowe.
Neil Genzlinger
No gratuitous raunchiness here and only a few tired caricatures in a genre usually jammed with them.
Michael Atkinson
Something of a wonder, a palm-size ball of banter and irony and earnestness that never stops rolling and almost never misses the sweet spots.
Joshua Rothkopf
Writer-director Jonathan Kasdan can't even bother to satisfy the buildup with a real moment of consummation (welcome to the fade to black) or believable postcoital complications.

The First Time feels slight and pretty ordinary by the end, with no edge or compelling insights.

♥ I Watch This Movie Just About Every Weekend. It's Such A Great Film. I Thought Dylan O'Brian Was Absolutely Amazing. & Britt Robertson Was Good Too..Her Character Seemed Really Seducing At The Beginning Though..Didn't Really Like That Because The Rest Of The Movie She Was A SweetHeart(: I Like Thos Movie Because It Shows How Akwards Real Life Friendships/Relationships Are Between A Boy & A Girl. It's Definitely Not A Perfect Relationship Like Most People Advertise In Their Movies #LoveTFT #MyFavMovie(:

Loved it I honestly didn't know what I would think of this movie when I first heard about it from my cousin (she's steered me wrong before) but I gave it a chance mostly for the actors (Dylan O'Brien, Britt Robertson, and Victoria Justice) and I don't regret a second of it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quirky coming of age story. Great find.
