Yes, it gets a bit sentimental. Yes, some 'Ya-Ya Sisterhood' friendship clichés creep in. Yes, it glosses history. But it's also heartfelt, hilarious and the cast is a dream-team topped by...
Joe Morgenstern
"The Help" takes us on a pop-cultural tour that savors the picturesque, and strengthens stereotypes it purports to shatter.
Lisa Kennedy
Thanks to a talented cast -- starting with leads Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer -- the movie is often entertaining. But The Help should have been challenging too.
Ben Sachs
As in many reductive period pieces, there are no real characters here, just archetypes, namely reactionary cretins and sensitive souls who anticipate modern attitudes.
Dana Stevens
The Help is a high-functioning tearjerker, but the catharsis it offers feels glib and insufficient, a Barbie Band-Aid on the still-raw wound of race relations in America.
David Denby
[The Help] is, in some ways, crude and obvious, but it opens up a broad new swath of experience on the screen, and parts of it are so moving and well acted that any objections to what's second-rate...

Hilly is an a#@! Oh my god was this moving. I hate to be like everyone else when I say that but this is just an amazing movie. The acting is great the music is absolutely beautiful and fits every Sean perfectly. The only thing i could do without was the ring Sean but when you see the movie you'll get it.
AMAZING & WONDERFUL = THE HELP I havent seen an amazing movie in long time. This movie made me cry and laugh so much :) I recommended everyone to watch this movie
The Help Outstanding performances by Viola,etc.....the setting.....the script was fresh...fast...and exciting ...fun...serious...touching...real....long overdue story about segregation...told from the domestic workers' point of view. A must see film.
See what all the fuss is about!!! Worth every penny. And I don't give that praise out very often! Not a chic flick either. Octavia Spencer n Viola Davis deserve to be Oscar nominees. Watch this n you will whole heartedly agree!
Great, though disturbing Fact of the matter is, racial discrimination is awful, and it's not often that we get to see and hear the details of how deeply it has affected the labor class of the south. I applaud this movie for examining that harsh reality, but it's that harshness that hurts the entertainment value of the film. I'll also mention that there are scenes that allude to subplots that must have been present in the book but that were skipped by the film - I thought that could have been handled better, but overall fantastic.
Meh I felt the acting was good but the overall story of the movie felt really disjointed, like they were trying to follow to many characters at once. You don't really get to know or truly care about anyone in the movie. Stuff just kind of happens. Flashbacks are kind of awkward. And overall the movie would have been better if they had just followed one or two people. Not a terrible movie but I wouldn't pay for it again.
Love!!! This movie is incredible. I read the book which was great. The movie is basically the book.just a bit faster...but its still an incredible heart warming story.

The Help The story of a domestic during times when "coloreds" were still frowned upon. Oh wait! We're still in many ways demeaned & treated with disrespect. For example, who saw the dog humping the colored lady during the superbowl commercial? Who besides myself found THAT offensive?! That was probably about as bad as Octavia's "poo" being surreptitiously eaten. Both disgusting in their very own right. But nah, I'm not angry just making a point, even if it doesn't necessarily make sense pertaining to the film.
Amazing Best.movie.ever. I LOVE it. Tear jerking though... I cried alot...
I cried and I cried and I cried! Excellent movie! Very moving and heartfelt! I actually wished it was longer because I didn't want it to end.
Sylvia I loved it .it was good it was clean .no bad worlds no nudity just a good old fashion movie Sad funny real .a family movie.!
Fantastic Heart warming, rude, funny, and sad. A great movie.
Beautiful. This movie was the best I've seen in years. It was hilarious, sad, uplifting, encouraging, etc.! One of the best parts, b/c this movie is full of them, was at the end....I won't give it away, but I know this movie will get lots of Golden Men tonight at the Oscars!!!! It was just a beautiful movie with all the right actors! Rent it, then buy it and watch it over and over again!!!!
Great movie! Loved it I LOVED THIS MOVIEEEEEEE....my favorite part is whenever Abilene watched a child she said to the child everyday "You is smart,You is kind, you is important" even though the family wasn't really there and never lifted up the children but she loved those children like they were her own <3
Excellent! This was one of the best movies I have seen in a while. Hilarious! I loved it so much that I bought it the next day. You won't be disappointed.
AMAZING This movie was very heart felt.. At first I didn't like it in the beginning but as the movie went on I begin to LOVE it... My favorite part was when the lady told her to eat HER S**T... That was historically funny
