Stanley Kauffmann
Its mostly observant temper keeps us from being greatly moved, but it holds us with its acute, almost laboratory dissection of its people's beings.
Ty Burr
A movie with more plot than it can comfortably handle.
Colin Covert
It's all intended to be darkly metaphorical. In actuality, it's a mediocre film unfolding without plan, purpose or enthusiasm.
Joe Williams
With a rucksack of gadgets, Dafoe makes a believably cunning tracker, and when he finally confronts his prey, the mutual respect feeds a poignant parable.
Soren Anderson
Not much happens in "The Hunter." And what little does happen, happens very slowly. And then is repeated.
James Berardinelli
The character arc is strong on paper but not well-realized on film, and therein lies The Hunter's greatest failing.

By the time The Hunter jettisons its narrative ballast altogether and embraces its elemental appeal, it's too late.

Really I'm giving the preview 3 stars cause it looks like it might be a good movie, but this as another said below this movie will never even go to theaters.. Now if it were going to be a major blockbuster then yes maybe a good deal for the price but its just over price for a rental even if going to watch thru Google TV , or HDMI to TV.. Otherwise movie looks good and that's what the 3 stars are for... Oh and people comments are for expressing your opinion about the content not arguing, cursing, and politics...

Change title 2 Waiter, that's all he does There are no actors I can recognize in this movie. That should tell you something. It is super slow and no action until the last 10 mins and that was just one scene. With a title like Hunter, you would have expected more. They should have called it Waiter because that's all you will be doing.
Enjoyable Yes expensive, but I didn't mind the $ too much as my local theater charges the same. I would like to see more pre-theater rentals. $10 for a rental is alot cheaper than taking a family of 4 to the theater. I enjoyed this movie greatly. Incredible and beautiful nature shots. Had an intriguing story that was a bit slow in parts.
slow but OK Dafoe was great, but the movie plodded along slowly. Didn't get why we needed a 9 year old girl to drop 4 f-bombs in the space of 10 seconds though, unless the goal was to make this film seem somehow more interesting by dropping an R rating on it. Regardless, always like Sam Niell, but had a tough time understanding the role of his character. Again, the movie moved too slowly, too many shots of Martin David setting traps. Seriously? Not worth a trip to the cinema. Check it out on RedBox if it still interests you.
get a grip people All this arguing is irrelevant...If you want to pay $10 to watch the movie, do that...If you don't, then don't...lol...everyone is just trying to bite off each others ears and it is hilarious( to me ofcourse)..."people" find any crap to argue about these days...gooogle don't care about YOU...it cares about the profit, regardless what yall say...what's even funnier is when you already watch the movie and spend $10, then want to get mad like someone forced you to spend that money...lol...take what your curiosity gave you and go sleep on it...and some people who speak all that crap still rent other movies for the same price...lol...contradictive spirit...anyway i am going to find something more imporant to do...deuces...keep it up folks youll go far with yall "discretion"...
Also, to the idiots, and "J" Your not watching "on a 4inch screen" if you use an HDMI cable to plug your four inch screen up to your HDTV, now are you? And, its $10 because it hasn't even been released in theaters yet. A movie ticket is $9 PER TICKET, and an HD rental on major cable providers is $5. So, with these things in mind, what did you complainers base your ratings on besides irrelevant crap? Great, pretty soon you wont be able to trust the rating system on here because the ratings will be based on everything else EXCEPT the important things, like is it a good movie, app, etc. That's what the freaking ratings are for. Rate it honestly, and then let people decide if the want to spend the money on it. Oh, but I guess J would think that this is crazy talk and I'm just a big meanie....oh, and I think chuck is a stupid name. Go hate on charter, Comcast, or any other rental service, because this is the cheapest you will see movies that are this current, or even pre-theatrical. Your post can't even be considered opinion because every other alternative service charges more than the prices here. For the new movies mind you.
Worse than an "idiot".. Is someone who probably sits in front of his "60inch 1080p HDTV with home theater system" with some narcisistic ego trip and thinks it's his duty to inform people about their ignorant ways. If you really want to do society a favor, don't procreate and spread YOUR ignorance. I hate crude and senseless jackasses..
Wel-fare Lmao @ all the people will $ 700 ipad2's etc. That cry like welfare recipients over the equivalent of 2.5 gallons of gas or less for some decent entertainment. No doubt the same democratic losers that got that idiot in the whitehouse! Good job!
Transformer prime An amazing movie was just watched on an amazing tablet... oh and im on the great price for a pre movie stop whining about your lame rooted (i know its legal) phones/tabs. This truth is given to you from Memphis TN
Good movie worth the money Plot was good, acting was good, ending was not bad. Ending was not the best either, that's why it lacks a fifth star.
Buzz kill she is sometimes :-) Great movie! Even better I could pause, eat ribs, with beer and family, HDMI out to my plasma, at home! I hope the media world goes this direction. Best of all is when one of my kids annoyed me I could throw stuff at them. My wife tells me I cannot do that in the big theatre. Buzz kill she is sometimes :-)
I guess $10 If you consider that the film isn't in theatres yet. Probably worth it since thats what it would cost to see it in a theatre. In this case you get an advanced screening, so I guess thats what they are selling. Seems it caters to a crowd that wont be in a city when it does hit theatres... People that live in the woods.
What is unbelievable? The fact that people are not smart enough to read why this movie is renting for $10.00. This movie hash;t been released yet, as with the movie GOON. Why pay $10.00 to rent it?? so you can watch it at home with friends and family instead of paying $15 per ticket in the theaters. . And by the way....you can;t buy it LOL
Seen it Not really that good ...he ends up killing what's believed to be the last Tasmanian tiger, good idea on the plot but poorly executed (personal opinion )
What??? You guys are all idiots. ITS NOT EVEN IN THEATERS YET!! If u don't like paying the 10 then don't. Me personally I thinik it's great I don't have to smell anyone else's farts n feet to enjoy a movie that just came out. Well worth the 10 and I hope they continue this trend.
Ignorance This was a great movie, people need to shut up!!! Do your research the movie is suppose to come out on April 5, so stop complaining that it's false advertising!!! $10 is fair price for early view, plus it's in the comfort of your home!!!
$10 is great For those of you complaining about the price. if you guys are unaware then the price for movies in the US is $10! Hence 10 is not a rip off. Plus its a nice movie. Good story, nice acting. Worth watching atleast once!
Not worth it... Ending should have been way better with him not killing the cat and protecting it or at least catching the cat, the kid should have gone with him, the only real action was at the end and he killed the guy very easily. I do appreciate letting me see it before it was released in my cinema regardless if it was released else where.
Hunted This was a great film. As good as the book. Not many films can come close to the book, but this one did. If you are into total action movies, this film is not for you.

Compliance
Inspired by true events, COMPLIANCE tells the chilling story of just how far one might go to obey a figure of authority. On a particularly busy day at a suburban Ohio fast food joint, high-strung manager Sandra (Ann Dowd) receives a phone call from a police officer saying that an employee, a pretty young blonde named Becky (Dreama Walker), has stolen money from a customer. Convinced she's only doing what's right, Sandra commences the investigation, following step-by-step instructions from the officer at the other end of the line, no matter how invasive they become.
The Reader
Academy Awards' winner Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road) delivers a dynamic performance in this "tale of eroticism, secrecy and guilt" (Claudia Puig, USA Today) set in turbulent post-Nazi Germany. Bringing to life the celebrated international novel, Winslet is riveting as Hanna Schmitz, a lonely, working-class woman who experiences a brief but intense affair with a teenage boy. Years later they meet again: Hanna now a defendant in a notorious case and her ex-lover, now a law student, holding the secret to her salvation. Directed by three-time Academy Awards' nominee Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and featuring Ralph Fiennes (The Duchess) as the grown man still reeling from Hanna's influence, The Reader is a "moving, romantic and poignant story, (Roger Friedman, Fox News) about the difficult distance between truth and reconciliation
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
In Werner Herzog's new film Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is to scoring drugs while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes) and together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.
