One is bored and stupefied by what seems like an eternity of vacuous spectacle, cod-Buddhist tosh and clunking dialogue.
Christopher Orr
[T]he film works so hard to explain its plot developments that it scarcely has any time left over to dramatize them. Exposition has not merely vanquished mimesis, it has burned its homes to the...
Lou Lumenick
Stilted dialogue, wooden acting, glacial pacing, cheesy special effects, tacky-looking sets, ugly costumes, poorly staged and edited action sequences, all shown in murky, cut-rate 3-D.
Mick LaSalle
A dull, boring, poorly acted, limply written and thoroughly unappealing fantasy, featuring bland characters locked in a struggle of no interest.
Joe Morgenstern
M. Night Shyamalan's big-screen live-action version of the popular Nickelodeon animated TV series constitutes a form of Chinese water torture in which tin-ear line-readings take the place of drips.
Richard Corliss
Please, Hollywood, if there's to be another Airbender movie, hand the job to some efficient hack, and not to a once mesmerizing artist who's lost his way.

First off, I wish I could give this movie O stars but sadly that won't be possible this movie made me wanna cry it cut out everything good from the series I was waiting for Jet to pop up. But he never did, the cast was completely wrong for the movie and M. Night Shalaman did not do anything right. and also, the movie felt rushed it should have been made longer like 2&a half hours that would probably have improved the movie if he would actually pay attention to what the heck he was doing and wasn't trying to squeeze in all the plot into an hour and a half movie it was a lazy attempt on M night Shyamalan's part I thought that you could do better than this but I was wrong what I don't get is why paramount let him make this movie they should have made him rewrite it and say try again i blame paramount too. I've seen them make quality movies like titanic . They could have hired someone else to write the movie like Steven Spielberg he would have done the movie justice decide to do give the movie to a retard who has probably never even seen the series.
Why? Why would you do this to such a great series? You ruined these characters. You ruined them for me and everyone else that even remotely liked the TV series. This is an abomination. It should be purged from every database. All rolls of this film should be burned. Did you even once think to make multiple movies in order to cover the entire story instead of forcing this turd into the dress know as film? Or perhaps create a new adversary all together one that could be covered in an hour and a half? Shameful.
AWFUL Did not do anyone or anything justice! Horrible acting, the actors were awful looking compared to their characters. I promise you the animated series is 150% better! M.Night totally destroyed this movie. The bending isn't depicted correctly or are any of the animals especially Appa. If only I could give M.Night a piece of my mind!
Its a good movie if u scrap the nickelodeon show. To many people say boo bad movie, horrible piece of crap blah blah. Here's what u do scrap the tv show from your memory then watch it and for those who say the actors don't even look close u go into hollywood make it over pick the actors and I bet u anything u would do worse all in all it was a good movie great work M.Night can't wait till book two comes out
Way wrong! I love the TV series. My friend let me borrow his copy of this movie once. I thought this was right. I didn't know of the series. Now I know that this is based on the series I'm upset. Zuko and Ozai are really wrong. Katara is a little messed up. Aang's arrow is wrong. Appa is not even close to right. And Azula... she's not Chinese! C'mon people! And they didn't even cover everything either. You also can't even see Zuko's scar. And admiral Zhao is wrong as well. Not to metion general Irho! This movie is a disgrace.
Complete disregard to the series I understand, its an adaptation. Not everything is going to be like the show, but they changed the most integral components that made the show a success. Sokka's an emo, Katara's useless, Aang moody, etc. They had a silver plater. Just make the movie remotely similar to the show and it would've been a success. Even if this was being looked at from a movie standpoint, the movie still sucks. The acting is TERRIBLE, the fighting scenes were lackluster, etc. There is so much wrong, but that is all I will say
You call this good? I love the series!! I'm 22. Most of my friends, of similar ages, who loved the show, agree with me that this entire movie is complete garbage. The casting, the acting, the SFX, the plot. M. Night Shameful himself!! Waste of time even looking at the poster. Worst movie ever.
M. Night Ruins an excellent story N. Night Shyamalan ruins a treasured story for many kids and adults alike. This movie is based upon a TV show called Avatar: The Last Airbender, which ran for three seasons. The TV show is witty, thoughtful, and contains well developed characters with exciting adventures. This movie, in comparison, is a travesty. I hope that they reboot the series because it has real potential. Unfortunately for Paramount, they chose the wrong director this time around and the fans of the show are left disappointed.
Horrible movie! This movie is nothing like thw show. Don't make a movie that is based off something and not dobit right. There were only white people in this movie just saying and definitely not Indians! If you put any other kind of person put Chinese. I mean dang! They left out every good part you could imagine. Oh and don't get me started on the actors. They all sucked. Anyone that reads this I would hope won't buy or rent this movie. It was bad for people that watched the show and for people that never watched the show.
Absolutely terrible. As bad as eragon. Absolutely terrible. Saw this movie a second time just to see if my previous anger and disappointment was because of the high expectations i had, seeing i'm a huge fan of the anime. The second time was even worse. The movie was just horrible all around. No excuses, it was just terrible. Omething is wrong with the people that gave this a 5-star rating.
Heartbreaking.. Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of my absolute favorite cartoon series in existence. The movie takes the basic story, tears away what makes it wonderful, keeps random bits that give it the weak direct link to the show, and adds a bunch of immensely disappointing tries at improving what was originally great. Unfortunately, I would not even suggest watching it for the "bending effects", as they too disappoint to no end. Alas, dear movie-goers, I advise you to stay clear of this film and watch the original series instead.
This crap could not keep my attention!!! MOVIE FAIL! Worst movie of all time I can get past messing up lines, wrong names, and several other things I won't mention but the acting was horrible! M Night said he watched the TV shows BS I watched the TV shows this was a F****** disgrace! And his name is Aang. Dumb *** next time maybe watch the show instead of being told what the show is!!! I`ve never been more disappointed in a movie.
Absolute Garbage It's not just a disgrace to the show, it's just bad overall. Even if you completely forget the show entirely, the movie is bad and unwatchable. It puts everyone to sleep, including its own CG department. It's also nonsensical, why would a prison of earth benders be a camp with tents instead of cells and be between two mountains? This movie is not worth your time nor your money.
MNS should be ashamed Terrible movie if you are a fan of the original animated series. Its only a bad movie if you wheren't. MNS should be ashamed instead he just claimed it was the american public that just didnt get him. Poor acting, poor martial art sequences, bending was slow and lathargic like most of this somewho painfully rushed movie. The names sounded stupid, and too this day the only movie that i have ever walked out on. Terrible cinematic tribute to one of the greatest American Animated series of all time.
Great. If you didn't watch the animated series. (•ิ_•ิ) This movie was very good and cool. Three things that were bad in this movie. 1.) It jumped around the story line to much liked they were rushing the movie 2.) Acting was bad. The actor for aang didn't fit his real personality. And 3.) It should give more info on past avatars to make the story more informative and interesting to see how they dies and what they went thru being the avatar.
Complete Garbage. They took a great series and butchered it. This was perhaps the worst movie i have ever seen. It was to short, they left out key plot, the characters had crap costumes and where underdeveloped. Whatever you do don't rent or buy this movie. I think a law should be made to destroy all hard copies and delete all digital copies of this movie, because it taints the glorious TV shows record. I say to the people that made this movie, you should be ashamed, and whatever you do, don't even think about making a sequel.
The worst This movie has got to be the worst movie I've ever even seen. I knew from the previews where they were not even pronouncing the characters names properly, that this was going to be awful but I figured it would have some amusing little mistakes here and there. Boy was I wrong. It was nothing but horrible gut wrenching pain the entire way. What was M. Night thinking? This movie is pure garbage.
Good plot bad acting this movie had a lot of good potential however whoever to organize this just did not do a good job this is comparable to be possibly Bollywood I watch this movie many times just to see if I can um like it and I found it bebe and it was better umm when I'm just remembering the storyline from the anime instead of actually focusing on this particular movie since there are some cool scenes in here
