Essentially a Monday Night Raw episode with mythological dressing.
Ignatiy Vishnevetsky
The dialogue isn't dubbed, but is written and delivered so indifferently that it might as well have been.
Martin Tsai
[Other "Hercules" movies] at least nodded at classical mythology. Harlin's boasts a Hercules in name chiefly and banks on moviegoers' ignorance.
A.O. Scott
It delivers what it promises, which is muscular guys in skimpy clothes fighting and howling, as well as some large-scale digitally enhanced battle sequences.
David Hiltbrand
The Legend of Hercules may not track, but Harlin still knows how to set up a rousing circus.
Randy Cordova
The whole thing is a total bore.

You could ask for more -- an actual script, maybe? -- but Harlin covers most of the basics. Or, perhaps more accurately, he leaves them uncovered.

It's not as bad as everybody says...but it's definately a broke-azz made for TV quality rip off of the mythology movies which have had good success recently. Couple decent fight scenes, some mediocre cgi, supporting roles where you don't care if they get killed off or not. Just, meh, ok for one cheap view only.

Where do I start? I can't blame the actors or the storyline. Those two could have easily brought an epic performance. I blame the producer for not having any sense of timing, character building, and .... did he even put thought into this movie? Wtf. When I can sit there and realize any one of these characters could get killed off, good or bad, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I should have an emotional attachment to SOMETHING in this movie. Nothing, nada. In short, we have Troy meets Gladiator meets 300 meets Percy Jackson.

Another Hollywood Macho formulaic bore-fest of archetypes created to suck the pockets of wounded suburban white-middle-class grade school meat-headed jock boys and their half-asleep narcissistic female breeder counterparts. Cha-ching. Paying to see this smelly brain-phlegm? Go roll naked in dirty glass shards. You'll have a better time and feel as if you've made the wiser choice. Unfortunately I lost my soul just watching the movie trailer.
Cheesy This movie was horrible. The acting was horrible, the story was horrible. Plus Im pretty sure that the blond has problems. Her constant facial expressions were seriously just-- wow. I was seriously reaching for a dull butter knife just so the movie would stop. This movie looked good at first but it really was just horrendous.

Legend of Hercules Wow I don't understand the negative comments on the movie. I think people over analyze a fictional film. It's an adaption of an old story. It would be boring to tell the same story all the time in the exact same way. It's a good movie and well worth the time to watch it. A cruel King, an oppressed land and a somewhat unlikely hero. They did a decent job with it.
Awful Kellan Putz cannot act. He's good at smiling and batting his eyes like a Starbucks barista. It explains why he had no dialogue in the Twilight series. Liam Mcyntire (Spartacus!) literally carries him through the film. He should be on the cover. The villains were interesting characters, but under developed. There were complaints about the CGI lightning, but the lion was much worse. It looked like they threw a stuffed animal on top of Putz to wrestle. My wife thought it was ok, so the target audience must be bored housewives.
This movie is so mediocre. I spent my money on the movie ticket expecting to enjoy the movie, but instead I got to enjoy laughing at it with my girlfriend and friends. So, I suppose it's worth the money if you're particularly looking for a humorous time with your "homies". The acting is pretty awful, the special effects are even worse, and Im not even sure how the plot is because I couldn't even take the movie seriously. It is clearly a cheaply produced film(in more ways than one), and only a very inexperienced select few are actually able to enjoy this.
Laughable, cheesy, and entertaining film Prior to actually watching the movie, I read countless reviews both praising and condemming this movie. Truthfully, it's not the worst movie ever made. It is on par with a tv movie. The action sequences were entertaining. Some of the scenes and scenarios were fairly cheesy and predictable. The cgi in a few of the scenes were atrocious and laughable. I laughed and cringed when I saw the lion. Even in a few of of the fight scenes characters pretended to get hit by arrows when they were nowhere near the fighting. That being said, I still enjoyed it. I watched it with low expectations. If you plan on watching the movie, its best to consider it a parody or in the same caliber as "The Naked Gun" movies. The constant use of freeze frames was annoying. In short, I would only rent it, or wait for Netflix or tv.
If you like this movie, you belong in an asylum. This movie was horrible. The acting is atrocious. People in this film are either boring or over the top. The effects are atrocious. They look like they would fit into a film that came out ten years ago. The writing is atrocious. It follows the Hercules of legend as closely as if someone made a Batman movie, in which Batman's parents are just fine, Alfred doesn't exist, and Batman's arch rival is a Mexican fast food employee named George. And the story alone has terrible pacing and hilarious dialogue. The only way you will enjoy this movie is if: A. You have friends over and you're in that riffing mood. B. You're drunk. C. All of the above. Seriously, stay far, far away from this movie, unless you want to riff something with pals.
Hercules, outstanding, I loved the first movie back in the day. things change, as movies and star's do, then and now, there is going to be a later as it has already happened. Before the action was good, now it is right on, later it will be more action. The people that but this movie together did the job they new, each artist had a job to do and honey they did that. Who are we to be the judge of some one else's movie when we don't know the first thing about making such a big action pack one at that Most of all, they worked together as one, you can see that, can you work together on your jobs as one, without worrying your going to lose your job, because each in every one has something different to do and when you put it all in the pot, The job is done and every one should be happy. That is what I saw in the movie HERCULES, that is why I give it a rating of, OUTSTANDING, THE ARTIST, EACH OF THEM DID A WONDERFUL JOB.!!!! And most of all, they all worked together as one. How meny of us can work on a JOB TOGETHER AND REALLY GET IT ON? As one. This is why I say, RIGHT ON FOR HERCULES, I LOVED IT.

Was this a joke? They should offer refunds when movies are this terrible. Yes, it was a terrible plot and the acting was unbelievably bad, but to make this even worse the sound was terrible and the affects seemed like they were completed using 1980's techniques. I do not like saying bad things about people or people's work however this should have never been made. It really seems like a low budget high school production.
A joke If you have ever read a story of Hercules, then you know this has nothing whatsoever to do with the of myth. Some dumbass writer watched gladiator and the 300 and suddenly was inspired for such drivel as to beyond ignorant. It is sad because now all the dumbasses of the world will think this is the actual story of Hercules and quote it as fact.
Loved it I gotta say in all the years I've seen movies such as this one and 300 wrath if the titans etc I have never seen a Hercules as darn fine as the one who plays him in this one kellan klutz omg he's gorgeous I can watch this over and over again just to see him with no shirt on and in battle good god you've made a real angel there lol........ He's to fine god bless him to fine and just has that angelic face to go along with everything else on him. His leading lady is sooo lucky..... The movie is great to!!!
