Bob Mondello
The film is never less than engaging, though considering that the title The Prestige refers to the moment in a magic act that gives it its "wow" factor, it's kind of a shame that the ultimate "reveal" in the movie is a little too tricky for its own good.
Roger Ebert
It's quite a movie -- atmospheric, obsessive, almost satanic.
Joshua Rothkopf
The who's-bilking-whom mind games make for compelling fun, but once the presto moment of The Prestige is revealed, you're left with nothing but shattered illusions.
Ben Walters
Not only does it tell you how it's all done, it takes so long about it that you've got time to look up its sleeves and work it out for yourself.
Richard Roeper
Jackman and Bale give standout performances as rivals whose mutual obsession destroys all sense of perspective and ruins lives.
Andrew Sarris
The film is lavishly mounted, set-wise, costume-wise, makeup-wise and special-effects-wise. But the magicians themselves are cold and devious, and the chill permeates the whole film.

Dana Stevens
It doesn't want to explore epistemological questions about the nature of perception and memory; it just wants to mess with our heads. And as a wily, slightly sadistic chess game of a movie, it succeeds quite nicely.

One of the WORST movie EVER to hit the retina's in my eyes. Wow...just horrible. Let's star with pros (only one) 1. HD looks great Con's 1. The most Sad, depressing story line I have ever seen. 2. Gross, I was dumfounded by the trick that required KILLING a lovely little bird, also some people that have died by tricks, and a suicide. (Details of deaths shown) 3. Almost no humor found! I need humor! Never watch!!!!!!! Unless you are a person who loves violence and a dark storyline.

♡♡♡♡♡ The Prestige is a little dark, but it's uniquely creative, & very well done, but to avoid getting lost in all it's twists & turns, you need to pay close attention throughout the entire movie. But if can't stay focused say, because your couch mate is lavishing you with affection, it's okay, have fun, because The Prestige is actually one of those rare films you'll want to watch again right away, lol!

Movie payed for - couldn't see it - then it worked.. I purchased The Prestige, for one viewing only, for $2.99. All I can access is the prevue. It's not the money, it's the principle. Don't lie to me, Google. (Original comment) Then: There was a new trick here. The movie appeared on a youtube location. I thought the reference to youtube to be just an ad but it really was the link to the movie: ) Saw the movie. It was fabulous. Great writing, great acting, fantastic atmosphere.
Good movie So let me first say if you've read the book don't expect the same thing. This movie is very good but very different from the book it is loosely based on. Jackman is excellent as an obsessive magician. Bale is fantastic in his cocky unlikeable antihero role.
some of the greatest acting ever This movie was brilliant, great actors with a great story and a heck of an ending. I was blown away by this movie and recommend it everyday of the week.

Absolutely amazing. My favorite movie by far. The first time I watched it I was so confused but it was so good. I've watched this movie at least 15 times, and every time it's like you find something new in the movie that you didn't notice before. It's a really complex, interesting, and original movie that I recommend to anyone and everyone if you want a break from the same old storyline in every other movie produced nowadays.
Super perfect Simply the best mind rape I have ever watched. I have seen this movie about 25 times and u find something else every time.
