Richard Roeper
This is one of the more disappointing efforts of the holiday movie season.
Dana Stevens
Stiller's attempt to braid together introspection and humor kept me engaged and curious, even when I wasn't quite sure what he was setting out to do.
Kenneth Turan
Stiller's sensibility creates a movie that's smarter than you think it will be. Kind of like Walter Mitty himself.
Joe Morgenstern
Sometimes you see failed films and think, well, they tried for this or that but couldn't pull it off. After seeing Ben Stiller's version of the venerable James Thurber story, I don't know what the...
Mick LaSalle
It has little narrative interest and requires that the director latch onto a very specific airy tone of whimsy, lest the whole souffle collapse.
Drew Hunt
Painstakingly stylish, this is Stiller's most ambitious directorial work to date but also his most cloying.

Inspiring This is the type of movie that makes you rethink what you have been doing in your life and if you want to change anything. Walter Mitty is a day dreamer that is afraid of adventure but is soon forced to live his dreams and it changes his life and brings out the real Walter. Definitely made me want to create more adventure in my life. This movie has more substance than about 98% of the movies these days. I absolutely loved it and still have a heartwarming feeling from it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Please watch this movie its so heartwarming This movie made me cry in a good way. Watching how he started off then he just achieved so much. And I literally cried happy tears at the end. This is probably my favorite movie and I would recommend to anyone. It teaches you to take the chance and never give up.
Surprisingly good My wife got me to watch this on a Friday night and I hate to admit it but I loved it. I love movies that get the viewer involved at more than a surface level but am not a fan of what I call "too indie.". Yes, some of this movie is a little Hollywood rom/com cliche but its really entertaining and ties in well with real life events (death of Life Magazine). I'm still kind of shocked how much I liked it. GREAT soundtrack.
My favorite movie Since I saw it it's been my favorite movie. I feel like it jas actually had an impact on my life. This movie is a story of a timid gentleman who breaks the ties of monotony and attempts to achieve the heights of his abilities. This story teaches the lesson that you need to be courageous sometimes in life. It tells you that even though a situation may seem inconvenient we grow through it.

It's an ok movie Great movie but in my opinion it didn't make me laugh, sure I chuckle here and there but for me it was that much I though. At first that it was an adventure only movie since he goes aroung the world (no spoilers) but since in this case they categorize it as being a "Comedy", well I would say this, they are movies that succeed on it others fail on it and this movie would the case, it was a flop not good at all. But taking that for aside, the movie is awesome, totally recommend it for adventure no comedy...
Secret Life of Walter Mitty is Wonderful Beautifully made, and everything it was meant to be. Fun, funny, romantic, interesting, meaningful. If you are tired of violence and smut in cinematography, you will be thanking those who brought this heart warming beautiful, humor filled movie to the silver screen. It is also beautifully made, with great photography, great acting, beautiful settings, and gorgeous scenery. Thank you for a movie I was captivated by for all the best reasons, not a movie I was compelled to walk out of within five minutes. Five star rating from me!

Terrific movie about experiencing life While more serious than some of Stiller's previous movies, he still manages to bring out some of his classic sense of humor. Definitely much better than I expected: had great moments of comedy, seriousness, and charm. Mitty had me laughing at his daydreams, and cheering him on when he chose to embrace life.

Ambitious, flawed but worthwhile The pacing and tone of the movie shifts more times than Madonna's looks. Some genuinely beautiful scenes and creative chances on describing the apathy many develop towards life make it worth a watch. The feel good finale doesn't quite ring true or as inspiring as they intend but there is a warm human story to mitty to enjoy if you let it.
Outstanding! Such a great movie! I was reluctant to watch it (as I thought it was just going to be boring and sappy), but my gf and I decided to give a try. I'm happy we did. It was far from boring, the comedy was well placed, and despite my prior concern that the movie would spiral into nothing but goofiness or that it would suddenly explode into a corny, sappy mess (all chick-flick-style), it did neither. It remained entertaining all the way to the credits.
More for a Day Dreamer Seeing the critics pan The Secret Life of Walter Mitty makes sense. Most of them seem to have only an abstract understanding of a life so oppressively dull that the only release comes from escaping into ones own mind. Stiller didn't have critics at the forefront of his mind when making this movie though. For those with that bottled wanderlust and desire for something more this movie resonates to the viewer. For those who feel like they just tread water in life and use their fantasies as a refuge, Stiller made this movie for us. We may never jump out of a helicopter into the Artic waters but at least we feel invigorated by the spectacle. Would I call it perfect? Not at all. The evil manager and his dynamic with Walter comes off as excessively caricaturized. The product placements. Dear lord, they alone almost ruined the movie for me. But flaws aside, Ben Stiller made this movie for day dreamers and I adored it despite the flaws.

Wonderful, wonderful film This immediately became one of my top favorite movies of all time. Our family at least found it deeply inspiring in many ways; it has a moving storyline, superb acting, *gorgeous* scenery, and a thought provoking overall message. And to top all of this off, it is completely clean!! :D Truly a rarity in my opinion; in conclusion, a must-see for all ages.

Wonderful Movie, I'd say one of my top 3 of the year. In a world of fast action special effects world comes a rare glimpse of something very unique. I think the people who disliked this movie are comparing it to recent flicks the been exposed to. The entire movie plays an homage to Life Magazine and what it stood for. If you demand fast action fight scenes this movie is not for you, but if you demand movies with substance and meaning this is perfect. I hope Ben Stiller produces more movies like this and stops those stupid slapstick comedies. This was my fav Ben Stiller movie yet.

Inspirational, Feel Good Story This isn't really a comedy. It had its comedic aspects, and there are a few scenes where it goes solely for laughs. However, I found those scenes (the Benjamin Button parody and the superhero fight in particular) to detract from the movie. It's Walter's quest, not his fantasies, that make for a warm, fun movie where you really pull for him and feel for his ups and downs. Apart from the story, the cinematography and artistic style are amazing, evolving with our protagonist throughout the movie.
