Wesley Morris
The film has been complacently concocted for likability even as it gives you very little that's real, structured, or spontaneous enough to enjoy.
J. R. Jones
Nice comedic work from Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney buoys this pleasant but routine coming-of-age drama by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.
Anna Smith
This film's masterstroke is showing everything from Duncan's point of view, without the traditional cloying narration.
Christopher Orr
An unexpected yet irresistible cross between Meatballs and The Ice Storm, The Way Way Back just may be the best movie of the summer.
Rene Rodriguez
The coming-of-age tale The Way, Way Back is sweet, heartfelt and utterly trite and predictable from beginning to end.
Joe Williams
Aiming for a middle path between drama and comedy, "The Way Way Back" is so overloaded with jokes that it could sink in the water hazard, but on the final scorecard, sure enough, it's in the hole.

A great dysfunction story I loved this movie! It was like Little Miss Sunshine: Part 2. It was about a dysfunctional family and their summer vacation. The teen boy is struggling to find his niche and his soon-to-be step father antagonizes him and is generally a douche the whole movie. It's a little hard to watch at some points, but it airs on the side of comedy. One of the best movies all year.

Im in love with Liam James aka Duncan this movie made me laugh cry sympathize for people who can't get friends easily and warmed my heart I love this movie and Trent um I'm not sure I will ever like him again but this movie deserves more than five stars This movie made me cry made me laugh this is the best movie ever it needs more than 5 stars
Funny and smart Coming of age with a dick for a soon-to-be stepdad. Told from the point of view of a teen boy, we see what he sees and we also see more. Characters are not 1 dimensional or only defined as he sees them but we can also see things from his point of view that he misses, as if we were him reflecting on past events. It is done very softly with light hands. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Step Brothers (Unrated)

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who last teamed in the box-office smash Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, now star in Step Brothers, directed by Adam McKay (Talladega Nights). In Step Brothers, Ferrell plays Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen). Reilly plays Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert (Richard Jenkins). When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house. (c) 2008 Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. and Beverly Blvd LLC. All Rights Reserved.
