However irritating 'This Is 40' is at times, there's a warmth that wins you over, and an honesty about families.
Ricardo Baca
Apparently Apatow's penchant for if-it's-not-broke filmmaking isn't changing anytime soon. And it's a shame, because while This is 40 has plenty of laughs, it lacks decency and heart.
Peter Rainer
The performers are so likable that you stay with them even when, as is often the case, the material is hit-or-miss.
Stephen Whitty
Judd Apatow is not a disciplined artist. And that's a good thing.
Tom Long
"This Is 40" tends to be about the self-inflicted problems of spoiled upper-middle class white people. Which can be sort of funny, sure. Sort of.
Kyle Smith
No one could be as whiny, spoiled, tasteless, combative and reliant on annoying stand-up comedy riffs as the entire cast of this film, the most disappointing one of the year.

Overlong, unnecessarily sex-obsessed and downright nasty at times, "This Is 40" feels haphazard and unfinished, despite a few moments of laugh-out-loud humor.

Very very disappointing Normally I love this team, but in this movie the script UTTERLY fails them. A miserable message and/or a very cynical view of what life in a post modern america is like. The central characters are shallow and unappealing. My wife saw this at a mommies and toddlers movie day and the audience lost their sh#t. I caught it on a flight and was surprised by its superficiality. Just not funny. Not funny for adults.

Takes a complete 180 Rented this anticipating a typical Apatow laugh fest. Well, That's what we got for the first half of the movie. Then, abruptly and unexpectedly, this movie took a complete 180 degree turn into a dull, serious and rather depressing tone that it couldn't be rescued from until the credits. I honestly thought i was watching a different movie. Trust me on this. If you're looking for Knocked Up, then watch Knocked Up again. At least that movie maintained a sense of identity and purpose for it's entirety.
Awefull This movie sucked! Cussing was so over used it wasnt even funny. Preveiw was better than movie. Waste of money!
