If your into tech, watch this. In my opinion this was one of Johnny Depp's best movies. I'm a huge technology fanatic and this was like a sneak peek into the future world of tech. I loved every minute of the twisting deep plot, and I loved the way the technology and the key features of the movie were obviously futuristic, while remaining possible, all while taking place near the present time. Shows me that we can go further with our tech and our advances in life than we are now, which may seem hard to believe. Seriously, watch this movie

good It seems very cliche until that end moment. If people actually watched the end they would realize it's very thought provoking. I think well done.

new movie lover I don't understand why this movie has had such a hard time with the critics. In my opinion it's much more interesting than 'Her' to which it's constantly compared. It is a dark and interesting story on multiple levels. There is ambiguity about the postmortem morality of the genius Dr. and also whether we would trust a being envisioned by us and is clearly superior to us. I didn't see this as a 'sermon' or 'man vs. technology', but rather a look into humanity and its struggle toward perfection.

Don't listen to the naysayers This is a great movie. I was initially enthusiastic about this movie, but skipped it in the theaters due to the poor reviews. Having now actually seen it, I completely enjoyed it. It touches on many of the subjects involved with the singularity/transhumanist movement, and does so quite faithfully. It might not work so good as an introduction to these concepts, but if you are already keen to the topic, I think you will enjoy this.

Great science fiction Not sure why there are so many negative reiviews. Film was well made and executed. The issue with most is said in the film, "people will always be afraid of that which they don't understand'.. So true. The least of what they understand is themselves. 'Know they self'. 'Seek first the kingdom within'. Really means seek to understand and know the kingdom within. We reject and defend against even our own healing.

Could have been SO much better This movie had a lot of potential; it had a good cast and a promising new director. Johnny depp was the first mistake this movie made. I mean his acting was bland and joyless. Put Paul bettany as the evil computer scientist guy and make johnny depp and extra. The second mistake was making this movie too long. If this movie had been 15 or 20 minutes shorter it would have kept our attention span. The third and biggest mistake was the director. Remember when I said a promising new director? Yeah, he failed. It made me really ticked to see that Christopher Nolan was only executive producer on this movie. HAVE NOLAN DIRECT THIS MOVIE AND HAVE THE CINEMATOGROPHER STAY THE CINEMATOGROPHER!!!!!

A fantastic directorial debut from Mr. Pfister. And after years working with Christopher Nolan, how could you expect anything less. This may be the most interesting sci-fi movie I've seen to date. Amazing cast. Amazing acting. Very original ideas. Definitely worth watching

Better than most... I'll sum it up in a short easy manner. This movie is not perfect but it is thought provoking unpredictable and way better than most of the crap that hollywaste pumps out. I've seen much much worse. If you have half a brain its worth your time and you should enjoy it.

I don't agree with the rest, this is a good movie Ok, people say it's rhythmless and shapeless - I don't agree. It has an uncommon type of pace, but it builds up and escalates perfectly (on my opinion) and the basic premise is consistent: love beyond the boundaries of life, death or even traditional sense of humanity. The movie is not the greatest I've seen, the "science" in it is definitively science fiction in the most ample sense of the term, but if we look beyond the obvious expectations (a movie that is meant to show a lesson about the dangers of technology) and focus on what I think is the real topic (a, well yes, maybe a bit cheesy, love story) it's really fun to watch and it leaves you with a good aftertaste. Do I agree on the "theology" premise of the story? No. Do I think this scenario plausible even someday? Definitely not! But taken as a story, a tall tale, and not a documentary, it's a good movie that, in my opinion, is worth a rent. Don't be a critic, have fun, don't expect Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow, or an Oscar worth performance from him (because, let's face it, he plays perfectly his one - dimensional character. He nailed it in that sense!) and you'll have a very good story to watch with your loved one.

Meh. I love Depp and I love the concept, but this movie just sucked. Suspension of disbelief I'd one thing, but this is just absurd. The transitional period from death to "uploading" is glossed over so badly that I'm sure P K Dick cringed. But that is only the tip of the iceberg, it just gets worse from there. Also, I know it's a silly critique... But Depp speaks like he's drunk and loaded with oxycontin the entire time. He's so slurry and mumbly that he's nearly unintelligible. Not worth the price.

Seriously!? Great movie, great acting, but... Hes saving the world, connecting people, healing the planet, curing illness that claims loved ones, and a group of ignorant people want to destroy that cause...? Its removing free will? Nope, people still had free will until it was attacked. And of course they get the government involved because the government always gets involved when its power is threatened. Sorry if i sound like an idiot or a radical, but this is a terrible end, saving billions, evolving people, helping the world, all the things we want to do are happening but because it isn't controlled and regulated its evil, better destroy it. Great message.

Fun, But You Can Do Better If you're looking for a forward-thinking cinematic discourse on nanotechnology and transhumanism, you're in the wrong place. If you're looking for a highly sensationalized fluff piece that panders to fears of technology and the internet, you've hit the jackpot. This is one of those films that sets up very specific logical "rules" only to later ignore or blur them out of convenience. It is apparent that the creative team were not given the room to really make this story cohesive. The cast are underutilized.

Transcendence: Provocative Why am humans so easily frightened by intelligent creativity? Is it really the newness? Or just the uncertainty that newness triggers? Comfort can demand sticking with a known past regardless of any horrors it is sure to bring. This powerful human need for certainty keeps nations in perpetual civil conflict and morphs compassion-based religions into an ideological desert in which unspeakable tortures can be inflicted with impunity. How to transcend this? Watch this movie for cues.

Refreshing view of AI, science, technology and the future. Over the years, countless Sci-Fi movies about AI, advanced technology, and the future of humanity have all focused on our ultimate demise via these advancements. It's refreshing to finally see a movie point to humanity as the ultimate culprit in its own downfall. This movie speaks truth to the amount of fear and distrust humanity has when it comes to technology and the various possibilities of scientific advancement. Instead of tin foil hats and doomsday predictions, we should be embracing the possibilities that technology can succeed where we have previously failed. A brilliant movie that shows why it is important not to fear but to learn and evolve. We can evolve for the better or continue to push towards extinction. We can work towards repairing the damage we have done to ourselves and this planet or we can continue to destroy everything. Humans decide how to use technology; the technology does not decide how to use itself. However, if technology ever becomes so advanced as to begin making its own decisions, I can only pray it takes the path of Dr. Will Caster. Brilliant movie with so many thought provoking elements, a bit of romance, and sprinkled irony throughout. Kudos.

Don't listen to rotten tomatoes This movie gave me goosebumps at the end, it touches many topics many movies are scared to look at, if you like movies that make you think... This is the movie for you an excellent movie for anyone into tech or anyone that likes when a movie touches you and makes you think afterwards.

Tragically boring There's absolutely nothing exciting about this film. It drags for an age and then ends. It dredges up early nineties fears of the rise of the internet, then buries them in a sentimental, tension-free trudge of a story that lasts twice as long as it needs to.

Good movie .. IMPORTANT FILM Being a fan of Depp was the draw for me and though i value anything that can hold my attention, make me think,or laugh , I am partial to the genre. BUT as well as being a very good film it is a brilliantly written and CAUTIONARY TALE. I dont want you to think me so zealous regaurding the point of the film that you dont deem the referral credible but even though we as humans are shy of this premise in terms of it being a reality the technologies do exist at present in piecemail. Please watch- PLEASE THINK!

I Loved it. !!! If you go over the typical hollywood fantasy small bridges they invent to put the story together and you focus on ideas of possible advances in each of the fields it touches. It Is a great movie!!! I can't understand the low ratings it got. It Is a must see and enjoy... And think...

Great but has its flaws I love the futuristic technology and the idea behind this movie, but I feel like it could have been executed better. The struggle throughout the movie seems to be based on a lot of over-caution that I believe humans of today wouldn't have resorted to. Makes me excited to see the future of our planet. Definitely worth the watch!

Irrelevant and silly Could have been a solid movie but it gets lost in its own unbelievable story. Its frustrating to watch.
