For most people, TRON's importance is as a historical footnote. It's the Model T of our CGI age. But the film's fans are passionate ones.
Dave Kehr
It's a simple idea that ought to serve, but Lisberger's failures of pacing, structure, variation, and characterization ultimately make the film seem monotonous and distant.
Variety Staff
Tron is loaded with visual delights but falls way short of the mark in story and viewer involvement.
Geoff Andrew
Tron never reaches a level of excitement commensurate with its effects budget.
Roger Ebert
A dazzling movie from Walt Disney in which computers have been used to make themselves romantic and glamorous. Here's a technological sound-and-light show that is sensational and brainy, stylish, and fun.
Janet Maslin
Its computer sequences exist in a blue-gray scheme filled with flashing lights, speeding objects and dizzying motion. Its visual effects are wonderfully new. They are also numbing after a while.

Simply Ahead of its Time Seeing it as a kid then, I remember being floored for weeks after leaving the theatre. To this day I know, as others had then, that seeing what Disney and Lisberger were doing lit a fire that burns today in the majority. The movie was geared for the younger generation, to give us a window into something that's in our everyday lives now. What's surprising to most, is the fact that we UNDERSTOOD the basics from that story. They sparked a fire and curiousity about computers, IO terminals and pathways for data. What happens to it, how it basically functions to get things done and achieve it's ultimate designed purpose. Seeing Legacy at age 48, that very curiosity and excitement was just as eager to see what's happened after 25 years. It's a great story that's not all that simple to tell. Somehow... they were able to then and proud they had again 25 years later with Legacy.

Great Classic I never got to see Tron as a kid because its time had passed, but even seeing it as an adult and knowing what work went into the special effects still amazes me. I love old school combination of the physical special effects and computer special effects. I have not yet seen Legacy but still enjoy playing Tron 2.0 on PC. I plan on showing this movie to my daughter since she loves the original Star Wars trilogy so much.
A good old classic This was one of my favorite movies growing up. Even today with its effective sequel, the original despite some of its corniness still entertains. Its a movie of imagination and an unusual 'what if'.
Tron will always be my creation and favorite As a child self taught drawing artist, I actually came up with the character like this but had no idea about how to go about getting it out there. Just look at where I could have been today ,Tron back then and now Tron Legacy today wow! I even used to painted rings on my frisbees.. my friends and I used to throw them at each other...good times!
Ahead of its time! I knew even when i first saw it in the theatre way back when it was ahead of its time! I was thrilled they gave it a.re-boot! Hope more to come!
Tron Was an instant classic when it came out in the 80s and when I rewatched it when Legacy came out it furthered my love for this creative universe that I lost myself in as a child
One of my favorite all time movies! Those without an imagination won't get this movie or the brilliance of it. I used to take paper plates and color rings on them and then my friends & I would throw them@ each other in the basement..... Maybe I'll do that right now! I fight for the users.
Awesome sause For how old it is, Tron is still one of the best sci-fi movies out there. Who doesnt want to go in to the cyber world?

Wish more movies were like this. It had a lot of cartoon scenes with a lot of kids games like the hook game were you to see the ball I could see that being a kids game like hopscotch or Tic TAC toe. And. It being like like low graphics since it was backed and filmed in the 80's made it look more like a video game and not a virtual reality.
Tron The original is not going to be popular with the young ones. As a computer geek its a lot of fun though!!! (The new one is more enjoyable for the young ones)
A LEGEND! I will never forget how this movie changed my knowledge of alot of things, though I like how today people don't know that Torn Legacy is a sequel!XD

Fantastic Movie Being a techie, I wanted to start from the beginning of the Tron series. This movie being before my time, I never had the chance to watch this movie (and my parents aren't the least bit geeky). However, when I saw Tron: Legacy, I knew I needed to watch this. And was I ever glad that I did. The acting is stellar, and the graphics aren't that bad. Yes, they're dated to today's standard, but that doesn't mean its not a good movie. Will be a classic I will always keep, and a work of art that I will recommend for days to come.
Great Movie! This movie is a classic! Led the way for the entire cyber culture as we know it. Epic movie, classic.
Fav classic Love this movie. Legacy is a good movie as well. Watch tron then legacy one right after the other to appreciate them.
Awesime movie all throughout I have to admit, I first saw TRON Legacy first , then the original. Both movies got me hooked into the whole TRON universe and pretty much solidified my love for computers. I highly recommend it.
