Jessica Winter
A numbingly reliable tick-tock of expository set pieces alternating with vast CGI-aided battle scenes.
Peter Rainer
A fairly routine action picture with an advanced case of grandeuritis.
David Denby
Harsh, serious, and both exhilarating and tragic, the right tonal combination for Homer.
Stanley Kauffmann
The latest in a very long line of films made to give us those things that other mediums could not provide.
Rex Reed
It's massive, opulent, passionate and -- unlike most summer time-wasters -- surprisingly intelligent.
Richard Roeper
... several of the scenes are just some of the best battle scenes I've seen in a long time.

Troy isn't so much a simplified retelling of The Iliad as a re-imagined version of it, told wholly without imagination.

Greek and Trojan fun with swords The more I see this movie the more I enjoy it. The Odyssey it is not, so don't expect that. Just expect a rolicking ride through terrific action, monstrous battles, spot on acting, and one of the best one-on-one fights in movie history. The Director's Cut adds little to the tale but extends the already epic nature (and more violent, risque points as well). Great stuff here.
Fantastic Anyone who would rate this less than give stars deserves to be shot for stupidity. Great movie. But it'll make you hate Orlando Bloom. If you already didn't ;)
More true story of Troy? Yes. It differs from the story written in The Iliad, which contains the mythical gods meddling with both sides. Even make Hector look braver than he was when confronting Achilles. In Iliad Hector is begged by his bare breasted mother to view her breast and recall how she cared for him. Then there is part where Hector is chased around the wall of Troy three times. :-) Just those two things alone missing made the movie a lot more worthy of man-movie status.
Fun and epic They put a great spin on an classic tail. They really did a great job of making Achilles a real person worthy of the trumped up tales of Homer J. :-)
Favorite movie This is my favorite movie of all time. It has every element of a great movie. Actors actresses music, story, history, and philosophy. I am an avid Greek mythology Studier
Awesome One of the best movies and performances by Brad Pitt.
You gave me peace, in a lifetime of war Favorite quote of all time from an epic movie

The Tree of Life is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950's. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick's signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. MPAA Rating: PG-13 - 2012 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures Funding, LLC. Seven years later, the couple was reunited, and, despite having taken radically different paths, they found themselves unable to resist the call of a second chance. Inspired by true events, the film follows seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue), who is sent to study exorcism at the Vatican in spite of his own doubts about the controversial practice and even his own faith. Wearing his deep skepticism like armor, Michael challenges his superiors to look to psychiatry, rather than demons, in treating the possessed. Only when he's sent to apprentice with the unorthodox Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins)--a legendary priest who has performed thousands of exorcisms--does Michael's armor begin to fall. As he is drawn into a troubling case that seems to transcend even Father Lucas's skill, he begins to glimpse a phenomenon science can't explain or control...and an evil so violent and terrifying that it forces him to question everything he believes.
