Tom Long
It's not a new story, true, but "West of Memphis" makes it both extremely personal and universally painful.
Joe Williams
We feel like we're watching an overlong true-crime television episode and not a movie.
Moira MacDonald
A real-life horror story, made no less shocking by the familiarity of its early scenes.
Ty Burr
While the "Paradise Lost" films captured events as they unfolded in the heat of battle, "West of Memphis" has the luxury of at least partial closure.
Colin Covert
A true-crime story that begins with a notorious murder case and grows into a chilling indictment of the American justice system.
Rene Rodriguez
And justice for all? Hardly.

It tells the story of a terrible crime compounded by a grave injustice that's been remedied, but only in part, so it's impossible to have a single or simple response to the movie.
User reviews

Brilliant I was living in Memphis when the crime occurred and remember the case well. I watched Paradise Lost on HBO and I like this documentary even better. The case is presented and reviewed for those not familiar with the details. I was very impressed with the investigation and documentation of details surrounding the case following the conviction of the WM3. Very well done.
Scary I live in Kansas, fairly close to Arkansas, and Oklahoma, I am nearly the same age as the WM3, and the very fact that this even happened is scary, but I don't find it hard to believe. I remember the "satanic panic" in our area of the country especially, where people are very culturally sheltered in places. I had been accused of worshiping the devil when I was 15 in 1993. Because I had black hair, wore black clothing, liked horror and listened to punk and metal. We were just kids, silly kids!

It Might Get Loud
Rarely can a film penetrate the glamorous surface of rock legends. It Might Get Loud tells the personal stories, in their own words, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos -- The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing favorite instruments, guitars both found and invented. Concentrating on the artist's musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations, provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays, this film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist. The movie revolves around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play. 2009 Steel Curtain Pictures, LLC. Tim's Vermeer
Tim's Vermeer, directed by Teller of Penn & Teller fame. Produced by Teller's stage partner Penn Jillette and Farley Ziegler, the film follows Tim Jenison, a Texas based inventor, as he attempts to solve one of the greatest mysteries in all of art: How did 17th century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer ('Girl with a Pearl Earring') manage to paint so photo-realistically, 150 years before the invention of photography? Jenison's epic research project ultimately succeeds as he uses 17th century technology -- lenses and mirrors -- to develop a technique that might have been used by Vermeer, supporting a theory as extraordinary as what he discovers. Spanning a decade, Jenison's adventure takes him to Delft, Holland, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces; on a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney; and eventually even to Buckingham Palace, to see the Queen's Vermeer.
For No Good Reason
Experience 15 years in the life of seminal British artist Ralph Steadman, whose surreal, often confrontational artwork is frequently associated with Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas). Through Johnny Depp’s lead in this intimate portrait, we are able to reach the heart of what make this artist tick, his friendships and fallings out, his love for art and his passion for civil liberties. This inventive, energetic, occasionally harrowing, but inspiring and uplifting film includes contributions from Terry Gilliam, Richard E. Grant, Tim Robbins and others who offer insight into the man behind the legend.

We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks
Filmed with the startling immediacy of unfolding history, Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney's We Steal Secrets : The Story of WikiLeaks details the creation of Julian Assange's controversial website, which facilitated the largest security breach in U.S. history. Hailed by some as a free-speech hero and by others as a traitor and terrorist, the enigmatic Assange's rise and fall are paralleled with that of Pfc. Bradley Manning, the brilliant, troubled young soldier who downloaded hundreds of thousands of documents from classified U.S. military and diplomatic servers, revealing the behind-the-scenes workings of the government's international diplomacy and military strategy. In seeking to expose abuse in the corridors of power, Assange and Manning were undermined by forces within and without, as well as by their own human failings. We Steal Secrets : The Story of WikiLeaks is a riveting, multi-layered tale about transparency in the information age and our ever-elusive search for the truth.

The Imposter
Unforgettable, chilling and emotional, The Imposter tells the gripping true story of a Texan boy who went missing in 1994 and was miraculously found three and a half years later thousands of miles away in southern Spain. Despite glaring inconsistencies in his physical appearance, the boy's family brought their long-lost "son" home to restart his life in Texas. Questions soon arise: how could the Barclay's blonde, blue-eyed son have returned with darker skin and eyes? How could his personality and even accent have changed so dramatically?
