Given its title, you can be forgiven for assuming that Adam Wingard's home-invasion thriller will be just another blood-soaked body-count flick. But You're Next is better than that. A lot better.
Mick LaSalle
By slasher standards, the writing is good, with interesting turns and surprises. And the acting isn't bad, either, though Vinson is the one to remember.
Anna Smith
Fairly routine brunette-fighting-for-survival stuff with a liberal dose of dark humour.
Peter Travers
Home invasion thrillers seem to come along every five minutes... Kudos then to indie director Adam Wingard for kicking in with some fresh ideas.
Bilge Ebiri
Maybe, in another time and place, and with different actors and a better director, it might have worked. But this thing collapses right from the get-go.
Peter Howell
Satisfies the expectations of Midnight Madness gore hounds - and then it happily goes about exceeding those expectations.

Definitely worth a few bucks There were several things to not like about the movie: a few of the characters weren't very memorable, the music was repetitive, there were a couple of things that didn't make complete sense, it seemed a bit random at times, and the name was kind of forced, but goddamn it was one of the most original pieces of works I've seen in years. Maybe you could argue that the actual plot and plot twists weren't too original, but the main character and pretty much all of the deaths were. Speaking of the main character, she was simply amazing. Kind of like Sidney Prescott meets Lara Croft meets Kevin McCallister. Plus, it did it's job as a horror movie; I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Good plot, just not everything else. This movie has an very creative and original plot. Although, the acting could have been better. And usually I'm not the one to complain about gore because I love it, but this movie had just a tad bit too much. Overall I give this movie two stars, maybe two and a half, but only because of how creative it was. If I were you, I would rent it only. Not worth $13.
Unexpected Horror Gem! I'm not sure what I can say about this one other than it's a home invasion film done right! It takes a cliche sub-genre and turns it into a fun film that is great. I'm not going to discuss the story because it will give the whole movie away....all I will say is that his girlfriend is Australian and well you just don't mess with Australians!!! Loved it....one of my top horror films from 2013!
A Good Bloody Mess I did enjoy this film as it was a wee bit predictable in the beginning. One or more of the characters did act suspect, I am a great reader of body language I guess- whether it's just acting or real. The ending will shock or surprise some, but I just loved the survivor of the film.
Favorite Film of 2013 I'd been waiting for this movie to come to theaters for over a year. It was being passed around film festivals for a long time and when it finally released it exceeded my expectations. The movie is full of homages to classic slasher films and bits of humor throughout. The twist near the halfway point was unexpected as well, which is a surprise in this day and age of boring movies with surprises seen miles away. Anyway, I highly recommend you check this movie out if you enjoy slasher movies!

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" -- or, rather, a homicidal boy in Stanley Kubrick's eerie 1980 adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel. With wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and psychic son Danny (Danny Lloyd) in tow, frustrated writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) takes a job as the winter caretaker at the opulently ominous, mountain-locked Overlook Hotel so that he can write in peace. Before the Overlook is vacated for the Torrances, the manager (Barry Nelson) informs Jack that a previous caretaker went crazy and slaughtered his family; Jack thinks it's no problem, but Danny's "shining" hints otherwise. Settling into their routine, Danny cruises through the empty corridors on his Big Wheel and plays in the topiary maze with Wendy, while Jack sets up shop in a cavernous lounge with strict orders not to be disturbed. Danny's alter ego, "Tony," however, starts warning of "redrum" as Danny is plagued by more blood-soaked visions of the past, and a blocked Jack starts visiting the hotel bar for a few visions of his own. Frightened by her husband's behavior and Danny's visit to the forbidding Room 237, Wendy soon discovers what Jack has really been doing in his study all day, and what the hotel has done to Jack.
