History Rediscovered: War Comes to America

Independent
The seventh and final film in Frank Capra's epic Why We Fight WWII series, War Comes to America is one of history's greatest propaganda movies. The film traces America's isolationist history while showing how public belief in that idea was eroded by the aggressive actions of the Fascist powers. While in 1936 nearly 95% of Americans told a Gallup poll that they would not want America to intervene in a European war, by 1939 nearly 70% of Americans were in favor of aid to Britain. Similarly, in 1937 only 43% of those polled showed sympathy for China's struggle against Japan, but by 1939 nearly 74% of Americans registered an anti-Japanese sentiment. As Capra demonstrates, these sea changes in public opinion enabled embargoes against Japan, and led to the Lend-Lease program for the British. America was still struggling with its position when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. At that point, America's entry into the war became inevitable.

Losing Control

Independent
LOSING CONTROL is a 2012 theatrical feature that introduces you to the intelligence and humor of a true romantic comedy and plays for both men and women. The only movie ever shot on the Harvard Campus, LOSING CONTROL is a fresh and funny independent film that explores the universal idea that, at some point, everyone fears that there is a "right" way to find love, and that they might be going about it the wrong way. This original romantic comedy about a female scientist who wants empirical proof that her boyfriend is "the one," stars Miranda Kent (Matumbo Goldberg, Campus Ladies) as the tightly wound scientist, Sam, questioning all that is in her heart because she didn't test it against what is in her head with long time boyfriend Ben, played by the charming, Reid Scott (Veep, The Big C). Add to that the actor, Kathleen Robertson (Boss, Beverly Hills 90210), as Best Friend, Leslie, playing the foil to the slightly neurotic Sam and you have the makings of a true romantic comedy classic. LOSING CONTROL brings to the party comparisons of other great comedic romantic couples like Julia and Richard, Cameron and Ben, and Meg Ryan and anyone.

CARPET RACERS: A Crash Course

Independent
The feature length documentary Carpet Racers: A Crash Course explores a yearlong journey into the subculture of grown men and women that make a living, or try to, racing radio control cars... Professionally.

Whether at their local carpet tracks, or on the biggest and brightest of stages, these competitors are almost exactly like those celebrated individuals that race NASCAR or FORMULA ONE. Almost... Aside from two huge differences: the cars are the size of a shoebox, and no one has a clue as to who these people are.

But these cars are no joke; they reach velocities of 60 miles per hour. And when the best of the best get together in places like Orlando, at the Snowbird Nationals, and Las Vegas at the International Indoor Championships, the level of racing takes the competition, grit, determination and desire to a whole new level. Speed and control is the goal. Some of these racers have it, and some don't. Both in racing and their personal lives.

Carpet Racers: A Crash Course documents the ultimate victories and crushing defeats of five of the top carpet racers in the world in their quest to be the best that they can be. The film delves into the struggles they have to endure at home, and the sacrifices they must make to race for a living. Life on the road racing toy cars takes a tremendous toll.

In addition, the filmmaker is pulled into the proceedings, as he re-discovers a love he thought had disappeared forever, and attempts to recapture some of his lost youth that's tied up in radio control cars.

Life in the small lane... It ain't easy.

You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet (Subtitled)

Independent
Based on two works by the playwright Jean Anouilh, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet opens with a who's-who of French acting royalty (including Mathieu Amalric, Michel Piccoli and frequent Resnais muse Sabine Azema) being summoned to the reading of a late playwright's last will and testament. There, the playwright (Denis Podalydes) appears on a TV screen from beyond the grave and asks his erstwhile collaborators to evaluate a recording of an experimental theater company performing his Eurydice--a play they themselves all appeared in over the years. But as the video unspools, instead of watching passively, these seasoned thespians begin acting out the text alongside their youthful avatars, looking back into the past rather like mythic Orpheus himself. Gorgeously shot by cinematographer Eric Gautier on stylized sets that recall the French poetic realism of the 1930s, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet is an alternately wry and wistful valentine to actors and the art of performance from a director long fascinated by the intersection of life, theater and cinema..
