524. The Last Movie
A mysterious lady in a diaphanous nightgown appears. Blood drips from her hands.
This is the opening of a classic Russian noir film which writer-director Nicholas Crawley will update for a North American audience.
Crawley is fascinated by the original which is shot in glorious black & white in classic noir style. The plot is also classic noir. -- the mysterious woman, Nastya, and her lover Pavel plot to murder of her husband Alexei.
THE LAST MOVIE is a thriller, a study in filmmaking and an exploration of a mind unraveling.
Followed by a journalist documenting the making of his film, Crawley battles his bottom-line focused producer and the intricacies of the new production. The director is determined to honour the creative elements of suspense played out in the Russian movie while making it accessible to a wide market.
Key to the film's success is the casting of the remake's leading lady -- a femme fatale who orchestrates a web of intrigue and murder. Elizabeth Seitz lands the plum role -- but it will come at a high price. Crawley encourages the actress to wind her own background and psyche into the character. And Elizabeth does.
Elizabeth moves into the house which will be the film's set. She screens and rescreens the original film. Delving deeper into the role Elizabeth becomes obsessed with the Russian model and its echoes in her life.
An eerie madness ensues that turns the making of the remake into a suspense thriller in and of itself.
Bruce Pittman has made a film in the vein of classic film noir.

530. Bank Roll
Set in present day Burbank, California and the surrounding San Fernando Valley area, 'BANK ROLL' is a quirky drama that focuses on offbeat characters who team up for one daring crime.
BENNY BIG-TIME (The BBT) learns his older brother has been arrested on suspicion of a few recent bank robberies. With every bit of the life savings he's socked away over the years, The BBT hatches a plan to help out this older brother escape the repercussions of his fate by complicating his own with the assistance of five close friends. The BBT has only four days to create a 'red herring' that will throw off the officials and clear his brother's name by actually robbing a small bank himself, disguised to look like his sibling. Money is not the motive.
With money not being the motive, the gang has a handful of days to stalk three bank employees and pull off this robbery. The BBT figures to exactly recreate his brother's crime and arm himself with only a few folders of photographs which contain the bank tellers' friends, families, pets, places of residence and other personal information that would threaten the safety of the employees. If all goes to plan, this is enough 'reasonable doubt' in his brother's case to clear his name.
Benny Big-Time's mates (ERIK, DEREK, JAMIE, K.C. and KYLE) each have a specialty. Erik is The BBT's best friend and helps put the plan together. Derek is a wild car guy and would make a great getaway driver. Jamie is a whiz with a camera and can snap all the pictures The BBT needs. K.C. is a makeup and special effects expert for the movies in Hollywood and is put in charge of disguises. Kyle, a talented actor, will create a good alibi.
The guys break up into groups. Erik, Derek and Jamie head up 'DAY ONE' and gather plenty information on their time out. Throughout the day they experience some wacky adventures and find themselves in odd situations while caring for a dog they borrowed.
K.C. and Jamie get together for 'DAY TWO' where they have very little success because the bank teller they are supposed to stalk spends all day inside her apartment. Most of their time is spent sitting in a car, getting to know each other better and cracking jokes.
'DAY THREE' is the last day the group has to find out something on the final bank teller. Benny Big-Time enlists Kyle and Jamie, but when Kyle's tape recorder is found under a workout towel in Kyle's private gym while Kyle is in the shower, The BBT and Jamie question Kyle's motives. The BBT calls Erik to see if they should go ahead with the plan. Meanwhile, Jamie keeps Kyle occupied and confronts his buddy in his own way.
'BANK ROLL' is a slice-of-life tale about six friends who have done everything together, except rob a bank...
