Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: "After Tiller" is impressive because it honestly presents the views of supporters of legal abortion, and is thus a valuable contribution to a public argument that is unlikely to end anytime soon. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Sep 19, 2013

Fresh: The film is a welcome exploration of practical and philosophical matters seldom broached across the partisan divide. – Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times, Oct 3, 2013

Fresh: What makes this well-edited film compelling are the stories of the patients and the agonizing moral quandaries that the doctors express in doing their work. – David Lewis, San Francisco Chronicle, Oct 17, 2013

Fresh: "After Tiller" is groundbreaking in giving voice not only to the doctors, but to those who always seem to get overlooked in the high-volume political debate about this topic: the women themselves. – Sara Stewart, New York Post, Sep 20, 2013

So thoughtful and nuanced

A new perspective on an exhaustively emotional debate. The film succeeds at being thoughtful, nuanced, and gentle. A really great documentary about something people probably don’t know as much as they think they know about.

Very informative

My proffesor took us to see this movie during our ob rotation and it definitely showed the “other side” of abortion, anyone who is against abortion should definitely see this documentary and it will explain why these doctors do what they do

Reaffirmed my pro-choice beliefs

I had heard about this documentary a few months ago and noticed it was finally available. Abortion has been a hot topic of debate even before the ruling of Roe v. Wade. Late-term abortions are perhaps one of the few things that many pro-life and pro-choice opponents come close to having similar viewpoints on.

The film makers did an excellent job of showing all aspects of late-term abortions, in particular, the moral and ethical dilemmas experienced by both providers and patients alike. In the end, it is not difficult to understand how this is a necessary procedure for a small percentage of pregnant people.

I recommend this for those on both sides of the debate and encourage those opposed to abortion to watch it with an open mind and heart. Abortion is a choice that is not made lightly and we must trust pregnant people and their ability to make difficult choices that are fraught with moral and ethical dilemmas. These courageous doctors and patients deserve our support and respect.
