Plot Summary

The devastating horror of a nuclear apocalypse is now reality and nine desperate strangers find themselves clinging to life in a farmhouse cellar, while radioactive fallout descends on the darkened world above. These would-be survivors face the nightmare of dwindling supplies, poisonous air and the greatest threat of all – the hordes of zombie-like refugees who want in. With each dying day, their choice becomes clearer – stay and let the makeshift shelter become their tomb or face the unknown terrors of the world outside. Starring Edward Furlong, Monica Keena, Andre Royo and C.J. Thomason, AFTERMATH takes a hard look at how far humans will go to survive. And it isn’t pretty.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Essentially, we're watching dead people refuse to lie down, yet the acting isn't terrible, and Scott Winig's photography is satisfyingly bleak and grimy. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Jul 17, 2014

Rotten: An often tedious but clammily atmospheric end-of-the-world thriller set in the wake of a nuclear holocaust. – Justin Chang, Variety, Jul 21, 2014

Fresh: Though they won't win any prizes for originality, writer Christian McDonald and director Peter Engert have fashioned a fairly involving, slow boil of a thriller that's as eerie as it is grim. – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, Jul 17, 2014

Rotten: The apocalypse is no fun for anyone, but the dreariest possible scenario probably entails being stuck in a house without a functioning toilet and with nine of the dullest people left alive. – Inkoo Kang, Village Voice, Jul 15, 2014

Customer Reviews

well that was depressing.

As a longtime fan of horror flicks, I looked forward to seeing this movie. Unfortunately, the trailer was super misleading - THIS IS NOT A ZOMBIE MOVIE. AT ALL. This movie was not scary, but rather boring. If anything, I found myself feeling mostly annoyed at the actors’ faces the whole time.

Lost effort

The opening is a giveaway, but one hopes not quite...there are numerous hints, but no confirmed backstory elements and character development. Excellent cinematography, scripting that runs from good to juvenile, and riveting final acting scenes that nonetheless leave the viewer wondering, much like a nuclear exchange, what the point of it all was. Wouldn't watch it again.
