Plot Summary

Dark passions explode in this steamy, sinister love story starring Rachel Ward and Jeff Bridges. Terry Brogan (Bridges), a cynical ex-football star, is hired to find Jessie Wyler (Ward), the runaway mistress of a ruthless L.A. nightclub owner, Jake Wise (James Woods). According to Jake, Jessie had stabbed him and vanished with $50,000. But Terry's mission is soon forgotten when he tracks down andfalls in love with the beautiful Jessie on a Mexican island. Trouble brews, however, when Jake dispatches his henchman, Hank Sully (Alex Karras), to bring the lovers back. Driven by passion for the mysterious young woman, Terry quickly finds himself trapped in a complex web of corruption, betrayal, and murder. Packed with riveting excitement and vivid sensuality, Against All Odds grabs you and never lets go.

Customer Reviews

Good fun.

A great bit of 80's [b-grade but who cares] moviemaking, complete with Rachel Ward and Jeff Bridges at their hottest, a delightfully dubious James Woods, a mini Bullitt-esque car chase, beaches, football ... and Kid Creole and the Cocoanuts. What's not to like?

Good Date Movie

This is a remake of "Out of the Past" (1947) with Jeff Bridges in the Robert Mitchum role. Both movies are fun - the '47 version for Mitchum's always-laid back style, this one for more clearly explaining the somewhat murky plot and having great locations. Richard Widmark is better than Kirk Douglas from the original as the man pulling the strings, and James Woods does a superb acting job as a man who thinks he has things under control until he starts to find out he doesn't. And this version has the great car race between Bridges and Woods. Rachel Ward doesn't do much but make you wonder why Jeff Bridges finds her so irresistable. As a big Jeff Bridges fan I have to say... meh. He's been better. But it's fun, has a good Phil Collins title song (Take a Look At Me Now), and worth your time.

AWESOME!!!
