Plot Summary
From 2008 to 2010, Beijing-based journalist and filmmaker Alison Klayman gained unprecedented access to internationally renowned Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei. Klayman documented Ai’s artistic process in preparation for major museum exhibitions, his intimate exchanges with family members and his increasingly public clashes with the Chinese government. Klayman’s detailed portrait of the artist provides a nuanced exploration of contemporary China and one of its most compelling public figures.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The story is enthralling, but it's not over, and there's no telling where it's going. Which makes what we see on screen all the more involving.
Fresh: One of the most engagingly powerful movies of the year almost completely on the strength of Ai's rumpled charisma and the confusion it creates in the bureaucratic mindset of the Chinese Communist Party.
Fresh: A movie that somehow mixes apprehension for Ai with a feeling of warmth and, certainly, fun.
Fresh: Ai admits that he's become "a brand for liberal thinking and individualism," though that's nothing to be ashamed of -- at this point, his Warholian talent for self-promotion may be the only thing keeping him alive.

One of the most important people alive today
Ai Weiwei is unquestionably one of the most significant figures in the world today. This documentary does an amazing job outlining his life, work and struggle. I would recommend this film to everyone I know. If I could get a copy of it I would try to screen it on my campus and anywhere else that would have it!
Propinquity to Profundity
Profoundly Inspirational albeit simple in it's messege and delivery. Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry -strikes a chord in the key of humanity for whomever watches it.
