Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: When the giant, intelligent bees of the future sift through the ashes of our civilization, they will find Alone in the Dark, and they will understand. It's so bad it's postmodern. – Scott Brown, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: The garish editing and stilted, exposition-only dialogue induce the frisson of an America's Most Wanted re-enactment that pays unexpected, sidesplitting returns. – Benjamin Strong, Village Voice, Aug 19, 2005

Rotten: A film so mind-blowingly horrible that it teeters on the edge of cinematic immortality. – Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Alone in the Dark presents splatter fans with garden-variety gore, and gives action-horror fans loud, unscary special effects rather than genuine suspense or bang. – Janice Page, Boston Globe, Nov 24, 2011

Worst movie ever

I have never written a review before, but feel compelled to now for the good of my fellow man. Don't spend a dime on this steaming pile. There is zero value here and I'm convinced the actors owed somebody a favor, or were flat out forced into it by the mob, scientologists or maybe aliens. Whatever the reason, I'm sure it would be a more compelling story what was actually created. Stop. Hit the back button, and pick another movie. Please, I'd rather you hate me now then hate yourself after trying to watch it.

Don't bother

Admittedly, having never played the video game, I don't really have any material to compare the film with. Hopefull, the game was better than this. This movie is just.... well.... awful. Not even B Series material. The first half was... "not great" and then it all just went downhill from there. I really don't know what the budget was, but it obviously wasn't much, and it shows. Only pros for "Alone in the Dark" are: 1) deecent creature design and 2) a perfect example of what a movie should NOT be. Advice? RENT it if you really want to spend the money, watch it (if you can stand it) and then drink yourself into a stupor and hope you drink enough to forget you ever saw it.

Pretty Bad!!!

this movie was bad, but it's definitely not the worst. that distinction goes to Bloodrayne 2. yes you read correctly, there's a Bloodrayne 2. don't believe me, look it up.
