Plot Summary
Two-time Academy Award®-winner Hilary Swank delivers an unforgettable performance as Amelia Earhart, the legendary American aviatrix who boldly flew into the annals of history. Richard Gere co-stars as her charismatic business partner and adoring husband George Putnam. Bound by ambition and love, their enduring marriage could not be broken by Amelia's determination to fly -- nor her passionate affair with Gene Vidal (Ewan McGregor). Equal parts gripping drama, stirring romance and epic adventure, Amelia will take your breath away and send your spirit soaring!

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Amelia is handsome yet predictable and high-minded -- not a dud, exactly, but too proper, too reserved for its swaggering subject.
Rotten: Wwhy does such an exciting life make such a dull movie?
Rotten: Much like one of Earhart's trans-Atlantic flights Amelia just goes on and on without deviation.
Rotten: Hilary Swank is forced to deliver dialogue that sounds as if it was written in Chinese and then translated into English by a computer.

Could've Been Better
AMELIA to be honest is an ok movie. I took my Mom to see this as she was dying to see it. Had to drive 30 miles because the Theater I work at didn't get it. Critics nailed this movie to the wall as EPIC-LY awful. They hated every bit of it from directing, to casting, plot, scenes, score... you name it. Personally I disagree. I think Hilary Swank was great. The movie however, could've been a WHOLE LOT better. Unfortunate as this movie cost wayyy more to make than it pulled in. On most of the 'Flops of 2009' lists, AMELIA ranks pretty high.
I would recommend renting it. See for yourself.
Amazing
This movie is so insperational ( and I've watched atlot of movies)
This movie captures the true meaning of GOING AFTER A DREAM!
Potential, falls short
This is one of those films that had great cinimatography, decent acting, but lacked character developement, and had serious editing issues. My only guess is that there is definitly a story to be told here, but due to time constraints and lack of intrest in telling a real story of an American icon, this movie just falls short. It probably could of run up to 3 hours given the green light, but we are left with a cut up version of a story to appeal to an theater standard for telling a story under 2 hours. Tragic.
