Plot Summary
With commentary from soldiers on both sides of the conflict, filmmaker Kevin Booth's incisive documentary wades into the murky waters of the American war on drugs, the longest and costliest war in U.S. history. Taking views from prisons and inner-city streets to the halls of Congress and his own kitchen, Booth attempts to sort out the intricacies of the national drug policy -- and the reasons for its unmitigated failure.

Outstanding Film!
As a documentary lover and criminology professor, I can honestly say that this is the best representation of issues relevant to drug war policy in The United States TO DATE available on film. I teach a course on social class and crime and we watch American Drug War: The Last White Hope every semester. Who knew it would be possible to enjoy a super entertaining film that also accurately depicts valid empirical research on substance use and drug laws?! I have considered other films to keep my material fresh but to no avail...NONE COMPARE. It's the perfect mix of individuals with firsthand experience of failed drug war policy in The United States: from the impact of harmful, legal substances on narrator (and director) Kevin Booth's loved ones to law enforcement officers who have been on the other side but now acknowledge the reality of drug war policy, and Tommy Chong, Freeway Rick Ross, attorneys and politicians educated in the relevant issues. And let's not forget Joe Arpaillo (think tent city where the inmates wear pink underwear- for all of you MSNBC Lockup fans or AZ residents) and even the Drug Czar under Clinton. Seriously, if you're a nerd like me go ahead and read all of the criminology research available on drug and incarceration policy in The United States and abroad, poverty, the history of drug laws, etc... (I could go on and on and)...OR JUST WATCH THIS FILM! :)
Unplugging the sleeping mind from their false reality.
One thing that realy woke me up in this Documentary was how the War on drugs really caused the chaos of the drug empire today. Once you ban certain drugs, people will start developing a need to statisfy their addiction, leading to a constant struggle to find something cheap, easy to get, and all together satisfying. When moonshine was created during the prohibition, crystal meth and other drugs where developed because of the demand of newer drugs with the decreased drugs coming from south america. Thus begging the question, if a natural, less harmful drug where legal in the US, would we have as big of a problem we do today with Meth and cocain?
The Ones opposed to the decriminalization of drugs wouldn't like to hear that over 75,000 people die a year in the US from alcohol related incidents. With over 400,000 deaths a year from tobacco, but no deaths reported from marijuana use..
The Producer(s) of this documentary has put a lot of work into it, he sure did his homework and the answers you might find here, will surprise you.
Beware if you wish to stay in the Matrix.
Eye Opening movie
You will be amazed by how much money is wasted on "the war on drugs". Interesting interviews through out the movie. You will see that this "war on drugs" is a failed war..but yet the goverment keeps sinking more and more into it. I also would like to add that "How Weed Won the West" is another excellent film to view as well. Looking forward to seeing the American Drug War 2 as well. Great film..let your friends now about this. Discuss it. Open your 3rd eye.
